Hi Jerry, MVL isn't "Lion" beast, it's "Lee-on" it's a city in France :) Love the content especially these watch party vids. Thanks!

Watched the whole thing start to finish. Great commentary! Little note: MVL /might/ be punning a bit with Lyon vs. Lion but Lyon is a city in France and the pronunciation is basically half way between Lee-On and Lee-Ong.
@golendorfjules1838
Жыл бұрын
The pronunciation IN FRENCH (and accent from paris at least, which mvl and myself live) is the same as the animal "lion", but in english, you pronounce "lion" differently than in french and the sound that we make in french when saying "lion" or "lyon" does not exist in the english language. "Lee" is definitely correct for the first part for english, but "on", if you pronunciate it as "on/off", that's not correct, it's this sound that doesn't exist in english. There's not so much pun, he is from that city and support it still in soccer.

Hey Jerry, i'm very curious. If someone else, say Alireza or Nihal were to become world champion in the near future, who would you follow in these events? The Dr. or the "champ". Then again, after typing 'champ' we all know who the 'tournament champ' would be 😆 - but still. Who would you follow?

I'm not gonna lie, it's gotta be pretty demoralizing to see Magnus play joke moves at the beginning and think "nah I got this: I can press my advantage," then slowly watch the game devolve as he improves his position and finally win. I think I'd rather he just crush me straight up.

Going to use this comment section to throw out my opinion that world level tournament matches (at least) should be played out completely, where resignation is not allowed. That would make watching it way more exciting. “Yeah he resigned because of a mate in 7” okay? I don’t know? A lot of beautiful mates never get shown
@golendorfjules1838
Жыл бұрын
You are misunderstanding, at the top level, they are already trying to get rid of draw offer, players are already smart enough (and by the nature of the opening knowledge) they know how to implicitely ask for draw by repeating move or going into known drawn variation, so if you prevent resignation, the player who wants to resign will just start playing anti chess and you won't get what you thought you would get because players are not there to satisfy you. And nowadays such tournament are covered and if there's a resignation because of a mate in 7, the mate in 7 will be shown in the broadcast, and the more you get better at chess, the more you see the mate in 7 yourself :)

Guy ... Jerry ... the nound [sic] is "comment" (not "commenate") and the verb is "to comment" (not "to commentate"). Please do-ate not butcher-ate the English language.
@paweljankiewicz1383
Жыл бұрын
Well guess what... in that case, it is completely appropriate to use "commentating". The term "commentate" is often used in the context of providing a running commentary for a live event, such as a sports game or, in this case, a chess match. So, you could say "Jerry is commentating a live chess game," which means he is providing ongoing analysis and commentary as the game progresses.
@davesmith5656
Жыл бұрын
To "Allinall" - thank you, I stand corrected on my "nound" typo. Have you heard any news anchor read "Him and me witnessed the event", recently? It wasn't a news anchor, but I did hear someone say that in a video. Native English speakers regularly fail to distinguish "who" from "whom", e.g. "I wasn't sure who to call."
