Magnus has the ability to win against Hikaru, but Hikaru is just overall the more dominant bullet player. We can see that by how easily Hikaru dispatched Alireza. But even more cemented by Magnus's comments on how Hikaru's level at bullet just surprised him at seeing moves/tactics with speed.
@johncombo
Жыл бұрын
I dont wanna take anything from Hikaru, cause i agree with what you're saying...and here goes the but, there is one thing that puts this in a little bit different perspective while not really changing the reality you discribed. Its the fact that while Hikaru pretty much plays bullet all the time, thats what he does. Magnus on the other hand plays bullet rarely as far as we know. And bullet is very much about practice. When u really think about it, Magnus shouldnt be as good as he is. I dont think people realize it.
@GbawlZ
Жыл бұрын
@@johncombo Also using that theory, Danya should be the best because he has twice the games in bullet that Hikaru does. It's not always the case that games played = higher skill. You can see that Magnus's general chess skills propel him to the top of the pack in bullet with only around 1,500 games, but there is one player who bested him. It's entirely possible that Hikaru is simply the best in the world at bullet and Magnus is the best in the world at the other formats, which I think is the case.
@sabiotiopablo5787
Жыл бұрын
@@GbawlZ not really. youre comparing pears to apples on your first point. His point is carlsen has the potential to overtake hikaru in bullet given that he doesnt practice much and can start doing so, while hikaru should be kinda peak given how much he plays. I do agree with your 2nd point though
@PeteQuad
Жыл бұрын
Hikaru plays mostly blitz, not bullet. Lately he has played more bullet probably because he knew this was coming up. He plays more than Magnus maybe but saying that it's his main thing is incorrect. He also plays a little classical sometimes. He is #2 in the world right now.
@dexio8601

@@sabiotiopablo5787How is he going to overtake him? He is basically maxed out already, he has played enough bullet over the years to know how to play, Magnus has won multiple titled Arenas at 1'0, has played over 1000 games against Daniel on Lichess, Naka is just a little better at bullet, and has proved it over the years with multiple opponents. Hikaru just decided that he's gonna become a beast when he got over 30 years old (when most players start declining). He was so close to play for the world championship and there the levels are so close that anything can happen (without Magnus competing, of course).

@zilla5749 how can hikaru be the "new champion' if he's never won a championship. He played in the last rapid and blitz World Championship (which Magnus won both) btw. He's the champion of bullet, and the chess 960. That's all

all in all, it seems a bit unfair to have Magnus play Hikaru after already having two matches back to back, with the second one being incredibly tense. Hikaru for sure earned the right to be in that position, but one could argue that this was their first time facing in this tournament, so why not give them equal conditions
@CrisJunkie

Nah, it was okay. It happens in most sports with an elimination format. The winners gets more break while waiting for their opponent. The losers battle it out with the rest. It has pros and cons. Winners, when they wait, may get rusty and lose momentum. Losers may be tired but have momentum. You want the break and rest advantage, then win your games.

@@johncomboI think 3 consecutive matches were a bit too much, but Hikaru should have an advantage for not losing till getting to the grand finals. Even then, I would argue that the advantages might not be there at all
@johncombo

@@muhammadfadlan8424 But thats the thing, some advantage due to double elimination is totally fine and deserved as you said, thats why magnus 1. had to clear the whole loser bracket before going to finals and 2. Hikaru had 2 "lifes", so magnus would have to play hikaru twice. So i dont see why they couldnt make magnus clear the bracket yesterday and have them play finals (2 matches) today. If thay did that, there would be no doubt and it would be 100% legit. I cant believe how many people dont see it.
