For a change of pace, it would be great to see one episode of matches from the most obscure of chess-nations of the world. At some point, the focus will be on the very top of the tournament, but while you still can promote these lilliputs of the chess world, you should! Promote countries like Fiji, Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea or any of the countries at the very bottom of the table right now, who get to win their first match tomorrow. Because when else are you gonna be able to promote the masters of these countries on your channel, eh? Also, please feature more Finnish matches. We are doing surprisingly well, despite lacking in the GM territory.

Here in Italy all chess fans are partying 💪🏻 ggs to our amazing Italian players 👏🏻 Btw just to tell you Levy, the pronounce is actually “Daniéle” (or “Danièle”) but anyway not “Danièl”, in Italian almost every letter is pronounced. Also it’s “Lòdici”, I can’t tell you why as surnames follow their own rules and so it depends on their origins. Sonis is “Sònis”, as if the accent were on the last syllable in Italian you MUST write it
@silviopergreffi4467

It's absolutely amazing how Italy beat Norway today. Daniele Vocaturo played in the World Cup last year and was knocked out in the second round, and seeing him draw Magnus Carlsen (i get that he was playing white but come on) just made my jaw drop. Incredibile games by the other guys as well. I made fun of them two days ago as I found completely nuts that there were no GMs in Italy above 2700 ELO and I thought we had no chance of doing anything at the Olympiad and now I find that we straight up won 3 rounds in a row. If it wasn't for India having 3 teams playing at the event we would have had a small chance of even winning the whole thing, granting it would've been really difficult to beat both them and the US, but as things are now indians will win for sure, and it's really sad. Anyway, you pronounce both the final E in Daniele and the S in Sonis, and Lodici's accent falls on the first syllable. Love your recaps man, keep up with the great work!

The pronounce on Lodici was right, probaily just the accent was off. Here in Italy often the accent on a surname depends on how the family decide it is pronounced, but there's a good chance that it is Lódici. Also, in Italian "lo dici" means "you say it" and we tend to avoid making surnames sound as an actual phrase. Also, the final S in Sonis is pronounced and so is the final E in Daniele. Congrats on your effort on all the name pronunciation in different languages

Irelands Conor Murphy (2404 IM) is having a good tournement to far - He's 3/3, having beaten 2 GMs (2664 & 2673) back to back. His game against GM Matthais Bluebaum of Germany was open and crazy from the start. At one point Murphy makes 6 knight moves in a row in the middle game and wins a pawn,

You said we should comment what games we would like to see covered for round 4, I really don't understand what happened in Austria-Armenia, Blohberger and Dragnev both seem to have won (the other two Austrian members drawing their game) but the standing have Armenia being the winner of both games and thus the match?? Also why did Gundavaa-Tari end in a draw? seemed like Tari had blundered that game away but it ended in a draw so that Norway got a draw out of the match? Just confused me, hope they are transmission errors but the official website has these results.

Like Magnus's game finished by far last, and for much of the game he knew his game didn't matter. Where as for some of the US players for example, they were playing for a win because the other games that already finished ended in ties. Just adds a layer to the strategy, It's great chess and I enjoy the recaps either way though! Thanks for the great content

Generally, ex-Yugoslav region always have some interesing players, who play exciting, attacking chess, so, I am looking forward for you to cover some of the games of Serbian, Macedonian, Croatian, Slovene, Macedonian teams etc. But mainly Serbian, cause I am a Serb hahahaha. Also, Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes did participate in the first Chess Olympiad ever, so these nations are kinda very traditionally loving chess, not to mention period of Socialist Yugoslavia, where we had some amazing players, like Gligorić, Ljubojević, etc. before that, Bora Kostić, one of the pioneers of the modern game, Vasja Pirc and all the others. :) Also, I would not mind these recaps from Olympiad being longer than usual recaps (about hour long let's say), cause there is so many good games and players here! Best regards, and thank you for the content you are putting here, I really apperciate it!

at 17:50 I paused for 30s and saw knight to h3 because its defended by the bishop and his pawn is pined to his king, so he would have to move his king, or just sacrifice the queen, if he moves his king, then you get to go knight to f2 forking him with a check and hitting his rook, thats just a free rook I think, and from there I feel you are in a good spot to win, but IDK, im not a good chess player so maybe you cant save your knight from there and you just play on with a rook for a knight I havent looked much further into it.

Hey Gotham, your videos are really cool and helped me get by into chess. I learned Chess(ruleset) about a decade ago (I am 17) I just got into really studying it (less than a month), mainly because I discovered that online chess is a thing. Which solves like the biggest problem I have had with my chess enjoyment (actually getting to ever play the game). I think the fact that my father doesn't enjoy it (though he did teach me; I think as part of a things every boy should know: I was learning whittling and we had just gotten a dog too) and everyone else I played, I crushed. I never got any actual education in strategy, or anything past ruleset. But am now looking back having seen an insane number of guides and can't believe what happened. My father plays e4, and I would respond e5, he did the same when I was white. So I just thought all games started like that. Confusingly to me, within like 5 games I had learned to play for center control by pushing center pawns supported by Knights and Bishops while leaving your Rook and Queen till later. I also had figured out to castle early. Three or four years later (by this time I had managed to play maybe 20 games of Chess EVER and I had taught myself the Italian to like move 7. I played the Italian in the couple dozen more games I played over the next few years. At around 14 I stopped playing (because I HATE the Italian and I literally didn't know there were other viable options). I have now come back after discovering Chess.com and online chess guides, and after a few weeks in elo hell trying to figure out how to play chess.com without misclicking and making a million 1 move blunders (because the transfer to electronic made me lose like all my board awareness). I have gained 300 rating in the last week and am enjoying actually learning and playing chess (because apparently you don't have to play the Italian every single game).
