Yes he didn't see the hanging pawn in 1, because he saw the mate in 10. Openings don't matter for players rated 2000 ELO and below - as Hikaru said. Magnus delivers the beautiful proof here - calling a seemingly good move a terrible move, because of opposite side castleing situation.

The Two Knights Charleston, right? I call that check an M. C. Hammer check because the Black Queen can say to the f-pawn "U Can't Touch This." I think Magnus' recent behavior shows that one can play most any starting one or two moves as Black or White and get away with it. You are just changing the start position a little, like a Fischer Random game, before the real game starts.

I used to play online a lot, one player was a master+, I lost about 576 games of 5 minute blitz vs him before I got a win. But he would do things like that, and it would drive me nuts, because I knew I was losing anyway. Another dude at the world open was 2270 or so, we played a game in the skittles area, his 30 seconds to my 5 minutes, it was effortless for him. It is amazing to watch the top level players play, those type of games, but it sucks to have to play them.

I don't think the check deserves a special name. It is a direct check with a capture of a free piece. The setup itself was far more impressive. Notice how there isn't a good response to Rd2.
