This video shows the use of the RISER Buoyancy Control System (BCS) on a SUBSALVE MK-V ORCA enclosed flotation bag with integral air supply. The system controls actuation (bag fill) from the surface and controls the ascent rate with computer controlled dump valves integrated into the bag. Here we are conducting an engineering test and evaluation of maximum bag ascent rate. The bag is fully inflated from the surface and is strapped to a steel beam on a sunken barge. Fully inflated, the bag is 2500 pounds positive. When the retention strap is cut, the bag ascends to the surface at approximately 20 feet per second (6 meters per second). This data is used to validate drag coefficients for ascent control as well as relief valve performance to prevent EFB rupture.
