Grew up in Missouri eating these as a kid. We had one in our neighborhood that was only about 3 blocks away. Great sandwich.

First time I visited the Greenville store and ever had one I ordered 3 more and bought another 25 of them to take with me as I don't live ANYWHERE the place. I froze them and they heated back up in the microwave perfectly!!! REALLY wish they were able to make a frozen version like White Castle does. They'd make bank!! One of the most unique sandwiches in the USA. Up there with White Castles, Cheese steaks, Corned Beef sand's, Po Boys, Pork sands, BBQ sands..you name it. The Maid Rite deserves it's place next to all of the greats!!!!!

@@historyisfun344 thank you my friend, it looks delicious & is very unique, I am not a fan of sloppy joe's ( especially with manwich, but my wife makes a decent homemade one), this looks better than a sloppy joe. Do you know if this is a real Maid-Rite from Iowa ? as is probably a franchise , but I want to know if it is the real sandwich & ok if it is one of their franchisee's as long as it is the original.

I haven't seen one either. It seems unlikely. The original recipe was invented a half dozen years into prohibition, however that isn't to say it's impossible. Perhaps a shop owner here and there, after 1933, added a bit to draw people in during the depression. It's a fun mystery!

I’ve been there and I have to say it’s OK not a bad sandwich, I live about 35 miles from there or so in a small town called Urbana Ohio they have a small sandwich shop they’re called Crabill‘s hamburgers and they have a great little hamburger similar to the size of a white castle but there is no comparison the White Castle sucks! Their little hamburger comes with relish onion and brown mustard ! They’ve been in business since 1927 and it was not until a few years ago they started offering ketchup on their sandwiches! Try it sometime !
