So I remember a different GI Joe mail on figure. Then idea was you sent your name and “code name” and they sent you a GIJoe of you. If I recall it was a generic figure wearing a helmet but the bio card had your name on it. Am I remembering something else? If I recall there were several mail away promos, I recall getting a parachute backpack for joes from one once as well Also Avon having toys was genius for the MLM because a savy Avon lady made sure that with her kit of makeup and other stuff for her party, she threw in a few toys as well because those parties were often held for moms while kids ran around the house. A mom may be able to resist buying some makeup she could easily get at a store(possibly cheaper) but if a toy dinosaur comes into a house, it’s likely not leaving if there are a bunch of 7 year olds present.

The most annoying choice for a mail-away was Captain Harris from Kenner's Police Academy line. Of course none of this was available in Germany. But, a little oddity in terms of Star Wars - we had a magazine named YPS (pronounced like a word) that was famous for it's gimmicks like solar powered balloons or other stuff, even sea monkeys. One partgicular issue came with a Snowtrooper back in the day but it wasn't your run of the mill Kenner trooper - the Yps one was still pristine white even decades later when the Kenner ones showed yellowing.

King randor I mailed away for from Masters of the Universe but never did receive it despite sending the proof to purchase in and so on. They made a version of Cobra Commander that ironically I keep ending up with over and over and over LOL. I think it eventually was released in the line later on is why. I've known g.I. Joe collectors that have 8 and 9 where they keep ending up with the figure. It used to be advertised in the back of DC Comics where you could cut the piece of paper out of the back of a comic book I forget if you had a collect a certain number of them or what and send in for the figure. There were a lot of g.I. Joe mail aways there was a version of Sergeant Slaughter. Another one was the fridge based on the football player Refrigerator Perry.

The drawback when looking at build a figure packaging is it ruins the look for me; a giant severed head or arms just sitting there just detracts from the presentability of it. Even the package bubble is off, with the cardback image distorted or blocked. The same is true of ones that have alternate body parts showing. But I suppose the simpler ones I grew up with probably look boring to later generations.
