I reckon productivity, nation-wide, would radically improve if the front line workers got a slice of profit. So many workers are like drones, just clocking in and out, not caring.

Mmm figures I saw recently show the wealthy top sector are paying a lower rate of income tax than the rest of tax payers. They should be paying the same in the first place before quibbling about how it is being spent. As it is they are being propped up by the rest of tax payers in NZ. Imo.

Unrealised gains in assets. Disingenuous way of looking at it unless you are David Parker. Wealthy people still pay a shed load of tax, probably pay for your benefit multiple times over and more.

@@willturbot1044 you missed the fact I was pointing out, the percentage rate the wealthy pay is actually lower than the percentage rate for the lower end. It should be the same percentage rate. Retired here on the pension so the majority of that is being paid by the lower end, hence the wealthy are not pulling their weight . They are paying a shed load less than everyone else as a percentage. Imo.

Talk to owner drivers of Mainfreight might have a story to tell. Regarding wealth & unrealised tax government should be minimal along with tax. Just do the basics health, police, military infrastructure & education. A capitalist society with safety nets is good but stay away from socialism as much as possible.

The problem is, when the economic system fails there is the potential for catastrophe. So socialist mechanisms ie government bail outs to banks(2008) and business /asset owners (covid)save the day, and it is the working class who pay that burdon. So it seems only right that if the working class and poor are copping it then the most, the fortunate who happen to also be massive beneficiaries who also dodge tax through accountancy loop holes, should pay it back and forward

@@dangerrayy I see where you are coming from but I still think let the market find its way. I fear wealth tax will deter investment in N.Z I’m also concerned mum & dad with 2 or 3 houses to pass onto their kids will be taxed in some way with just natural appreciation. I get sick of the leftist ideology to tax into prosperity which won’t work.

@@user-ek1sq3bj4z taxing into prosperity is the reason why mums and dads with normal jobs could afford houses to begin with. Socialist mechanisms (laws) were implemented with the idea that it should not just be the rich who buy land and houses. They saw in other countries how class systems created people born in poverty had no chance of getting out of it. Leftist ideals using taxes provided free or heavily subsidized healthcare systems, schooling, apprentiships. NZ had a super scheme which was sold i believe by a national government. National also wanted to sell kiwisaver but it was too unpopular. I believe they introduced taxing it. National raised gst tax when they said no taxes. Your mum and dad with 2 or three houses increased thier wealth by 20 percent in 2020! Doing nothing. Everything went up thanks to mechanisms designed to protect business (because thats important). But measures are needed to respond to this because whay was created was the rich by doing nothing got massively relatively richer compared to the non asset owners

@@user-ek1sq3bj4z Mum and Dads 2 houses became 20% on avg more valuable in 2020 largely thanks to government measures to keep business going during covid. @@user-ek1sq3bj4z (economist)Hickey said the Government had also given at least $20 billion in cash to businesses and asset owners, whose cash savings accounts swelled from $45 billion to $319 billion since about 2019. “The problem with the Government’s response is it was really focused on boosting their wealth through increasing the housing market and by giving them lots of cash to ensure they kept employing the rest of the population,” he said. “The problem is, that made the wealthier even wealthier to save the economy, rather than giving the money directly to those people who needed it the most and would have used it to repay debt and spent it.” Did the poor mums and dads who own 2 or 3 houses thank the government or curse them and blame the poor for the current situation?
