All of this is after a 3 month "eating awareness" in which I lost 26 lbs over 3 months by keeping a "low calorie" diet restricting myself the whole time, but after I hit a noticeable weight and everybody noticed it, and a few december social gatherings, I broke it and regained 5kg in about 2 weeks, drank too much alcohol, overate, etc. I am comitting again to this. I did consider doing the faster long term straight fasting but it sounded kinda unhealthy & then there is the willpower issues. I also dont do Omad every day because i dont want my starve my stomack cultures & end up with bad digestion. Also at least once a month i eat too many carbs on purpose to make sure i dont get thyroid issues etc. The whole point of going in/out of fasting is also help my skin tighten & not end up with too much hanging skin. Also i never considered myself one with particular strong willpower but there is something vey liberating about actually finding a diet that actually works.

The stomach/belt area is of cause the area where ive lost the most weight & i had a really extended belly back then & that is the area i feared would have the most flappy skin, but surpricingly its just as if the stomach has shrunken in size but also gotten a lot less solid. The stocmach is still somewhat extended & a bit wobbly infact but still "solid" enough to not be loose & or hanging. Ive heard someone say that the skin manages to keep up because of switching back & forth between fasting (where bad cells are broken down) & eating (new health cells created instread). a nurse did mention skin reduction surgery all the way back 2 years ago when i had just barely started this diet but right now i certainly dont even consider that an option. @@Hassan56508 that's a serious condition that can lead to death if you overeat after a long period of starvation, that's why in the series band of brothers you see a scene of a doctor screaming to the soldiers not to feed the jews they freed from the concentration camps, that happened in real life, because food needs to be reintroduced slowly, one of the things to mitigate that is consuming electrolytes and minerals during the fast, specially sodium and potassium, since they help to regulate the flow of liquids in the body, it's theorized that the introduction of potassium after a long period without it it's one of the main reasons for refeeding syndrome, but not confirmed, anyways the best way to avoid that is reintroducing food very very slowly, for each week of fast at least a day of no solid food, or heavy intake of calories, bone broth is one of the foods that can be used, but some fruit depending on the duration of the fast is ok, some people choose other foods, plenty of literature for how reintroduce food after starvation can be found on scientific papers about the subject, youtube has doctors that will talk about that too, but be careful and read a bit, don't trust a single source, go for as many as possible and try to avoid people that pretend that there are no drawbacks to fasting, even if there are benefits.

It was my intention to do it for 4 weeks but I'm glad I stopped in time. It took me more than 2 weeks to regain my energy and stabilize tot normal. Also, some small scars on my body wouldn't heal. It looks as though my body was in a state of conserving energy and protein and things like 'repairing scars' isn't that alarming or important. What went wrong? I have no idea. I read the most fabulous stories of water fasting and it didn't work for me. Okay, the weight loss worked but I felt a bit sick. Maybe I'm an exception but fasting for a longer period is not a good idea for everyone, I think. The next time I will do max.7 days for I think a longer period is not so healthy for me. ?????? Is this unique for me or did this happen to others ???????

correction: I said 'scars' but I meant 'small wounds'. These wounds didn't heal during the fasting period (and weeks after that) and that was very strange. Now they have healed and my body seems to work normally as it should (3 weeks after I stopped). During the fasting period I took vitamins and salt so I did what was necessary. I wonder if I'm the only person who reacted this way on water fasting. BTW, it is my intention to have another couple of water fastings in the near future, but each time max. 1 week.

@@evajun8287 I’m pretty sure it’s because you weren’t eating lol. When you don’t eat you feel bad. Fasting is not some type of treatment that will make you feel the best you’ve ever had. Your body is meant to eat and when you don’t eat you start dying because you’re depriving yourself of basic nutrients. As for your scars not healing, it’s because you weren’t getting any protein, which work to rebuild your body. Other important vitamins and minerals were prob lacking from your diet (if you weren’t taking them in pills). You’re basically starving and dying lol, that’s why you were sick.

Yes it’s SO different for everyone!! Some individuals can go months of fasting, others only a few days before they get effects bad enough they should stop. Listen to your body! I’m all for fasting, but everything within moderation.

Never start a water fast without all the important electrolytes, sodium mixed with chloride both salt, magnesium and potassium! Those electrolytes took all my dizziness and stopped me from being lightheaded. You're blood circulation wouldn't work as it should with out salt in you're cells!

@@takemichiyeager142 Thank you! I think you're right with this. I did these fasting days again for several times and it worked better (with salt and minerals). I'm now 13 kilo's / 29 pounds lighter (my BMI is now 23) and it is enough to fit in a bikini without having to shame myself because of my belly. It worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So is it fair to say that water fasting (prolonged, going beyond 3 days) is a healthy and safe way to lose a lot of weight (100lbs+)?

Well, in science, n=1 is not something you can base a reliable decision on, but look at the big picture. Food wasn't always as plentiful and accessible as it is now; our own anatomy and how it operates, reacts, and acts is evidence of food being scarce. An ability to store fat, an ability to use two types of energy, etc, etc - are all prime examples, at least for me, that fasting/ going x amount of days without food was the norm. I’d question three+ meals a day before questioning going several days without eating with regards as to what is safe. I hope that one day, a large controlled study can be done on fasting, with n being as high as possible.

In the comments section of his website Dr Tillis Barker says that for extended water fast to not take electrolytes because it will lessen the speed of your healing. He said your electrolytes should be fine for about 21 days and says the symptoms of detox healing or sometimes the same as low electrolytes. He cautions that doing an extended water fast is different than a short one.

I did 53 days and dropped to about 127. I was close to 230. But i was in my teens and was way more active. I was losing about 2lbs a day. And never went to the dr. When i broke my fast i ate some fruit for a week untill i felt like i could have more solid foods like meat. Im about to make my 20th attempt at another 53 days. Or atleast 40. I never was able to fast like that again. But im down to one meal a day. And been since last december

Do you have to worry about high ketones (over 8 mmol/L) while doing an extended fast if your blood sugar is good? I attempted a 12 day fast and stopped at 9 days when my KetoMojo read "HI" for ketones because I got scared. I'm doing another fast now and I'd really like to make that 12 days this time.

I've seen you talk about Dr. Berg and Dr. Fung. You might've even seen Thomas DeLauer. I wonder if you've looked at Cole Robinson, he's that mean rude little Canadian gremlin that came up with the "snake diet". He's big on salty mineral water and fasting, with a large dose of drill instructor-like verbal abuse. He has done a few interviews where he's not doing the angry 4letter motivational speaking. In those interviews he seems to have a good basic take on weight loss and health through fasting, albeit extreme at first.

@@Physionic for the morbidly obese, he likes doing back to back 72hr fasts. 3days fasted, 1 huge keto meal, repeat. Hence why he calls it a "snake diet". When closer to target, 2days to 1meal, then 1day to 1meal, then OMAD. like I said, he's nuts and pretty raw. But, he's getting good results. He has varying approach for different body fat percentage. If you're just finishing, like an athlete doing a cut, you start at 1 to 1. If you're 30% or above "a fat lazy pig" 3 to 1 with the walking it down. He basically learned by research and experimenting on himself. The nasty drill instructor bit is just his gimmick.
