I came across this exact same mower at the curb and grabbed it. I got it to run again and should have just flipped it as everything basically works. I couldn't leave well enough alone so now I'm in the process of doing most of the same things you are and this video has been extremely helpful. I wasn't too familiar with this kind of set up but it really doesn't seem to bad once you get familiar with how it works. Thanks, now I'm going to spend some time and money on it!

Thanks for the video. I tuned in to find out what grease goes in the gearbox and learned a lot more. Good job...

Fill and go oil is very similar to all the auto manufacturers that are running "lifetime" fluid, mostly in transmissions and PTUs/transfer cases, and transmissions that need the case split to swap a filter. They can't wait for it to fail so they can quote you a replacement part that's so overpriced that you're more likely to crush the car and buy a new one. A small engine can run damn near forever - usually a deck would rot out before you'd buy a mower. Now they're trying to melt down your engine in 5 years so you keep coming back for more retail therapy.

Nice work, enjoyed the video. However; you mentioned that it doesn’t seem to have much power and I hear the engine running low rpms while you’re testing it cutting grass towards the end. Try adjusting the throttle/governor linkage so it turns at least 3400 RPM as it should at wide open throttle and I’m sure the power will be more than adequate. Love these old Snappers!

I have one of these exact mowers. The engine has no compression now. I lost the bagger attachment. But I love how that thing cut. The only complaint when using, the handles should be a little longer. I hate the new handle that come with new cords.

I have a snapper mower like that where the drive disc is seized in place on the shaft. I soaked it in penetration oil. Any tricks to break it free.

Tyler I got a Snapper with a solid rubber wheel. I got some of the wheels for commercial Snappers. I was wondering if they fit on?. The rubber wheel that touches drive disc is 42.00 now. Just thinking. My self into another project.

Back when Snapper made little mini tanks that would last forever! Since they (and Murray) became part of Briggs and Stratton, they have become just cheap plastic junk. Two great old Southern made products that have become a shadow of what they once were.

I have similar mower, just broke the spring that is on the self propel cable. Do you have a video already showing how to fix this? I know it's probably easy, but just would like a visual before I try it myself. Snapper is model p21407t but appears to be very similarly made to your 1989!

No. It's a GoPro that is mounted in a holder. Something is causing noise. Working on resolution.
