The second gathering of the Awesome Players at Ivan's secret maintenance lair just off the island of Montreal. Record flooding meant that we weren't sure if we would be able to get back home but Ivan had some blankets and plenty of booze so we weren't worried. Coffee with booster and some Timbits were ingested. Chris installed his reworked forks on the HP2 then it was on to repairing the damage to the engine. A crash the year before had punched a hole in the valve cover and broken off one of the mounting lugs. The heads needed to be re-installed and re-timed. Meanwhile Jason was installing the Tubliss system on the rear wheel of his KTM 500EXC. A bit of a finicky system and I think it will go much smoother next time. Several crusty wheel bearings were also swapped out with heat and a slide hammer. Back at the HP2 tensions were running high as the head bolts were torqued down. Three rounds of torquing while everyone held their breathe. Then disaster. The cam sprocket had rotated and was torqued down in wrong spot. This flattened the indexing key and it now just spun without rotating the valve train. A new part would be needed. Pretty typical day of wrenching for the Awesome Players.
