The care of the wounded, dead, and prisoners had never occurred to me as factors in the aftermath of Gettysburg. Never really knew about the defeat of Pettigrew either. Thank you for posting this wonderful, informative content. I'd love to see similar content on Shiloh, Chickamauga, and the Wilderness.

There were several factors discouraging a pursuit and attack on Gen. Lee after Gettysburg. First of all, General Meade’s primary orders were to stay between Lee and Washington D.C. to attack would have been a violation of those orders. Secondly, it was raining cats and dogs nearly all week which made any military action very difficult, especially considering the battle that had just been fought over the last 3 days. Third, while the Army of Northern Virginia was waiting for the swollen waters of the Potomac River to recede enough to ford, they built entrenchments and earthworks. Lee wanted Meade to attack him. General George Gordon Meade was not one to attack without good intelligence and solid knowledge of his enemy’s disposition. He was no genius and he made his fair share of mistakes, but at Gettysburg, he did just about everything right.

Meade played it safe : Lee always had a better and FASTER grasp of situations ? Fewer Political implications ?🤔

Lee certainly knew how to get his men killed. Traitor and a butcher.
