Wonderful idea for displaying the favourites from your collection! I used to collect keychains when I was a kid, I had somewhere close to 200. But I haven't the slightest idea where they are now, it's been 20 years, haha!

Great project Steve! I was thinking that an interesting design choice would be to use the Axle pegs instead of screws to hold the aluminum angle piece to the board. I am sure it would be strong enough... cut them down to ~1/2 inch and drill 1/2 inch hole in the edge of the board. It would be a neat design element because it brings the key holders out to the external of the board as well.

Hey Troy! I like that idea. It will definitely look better than the screws. Need to get another pack of pegs.

Glad to see another video from you Steve. I always learn something. I do not have an X Carve but have a question. Would it be possible to apply the masking tape to the wood prior to cutting the letters and have the machine cut the tape too? Then you wouldn’t have to hand-cut the tape. Or would it just shred the edges of the tape? Thanks!

Hi Thomas, thanks! Yes, there are masking products like Oramask that you can cover the board with before cutting. I have only tested blue painters tape and the bit tears and peels it up too easily. I've had good results with spraying the wood with lacquer to seal it first, then spray painting the letters and sanding off the surface. I tape around the words to minimze overspray. I also cover bigger areas between the letters with tape, but it's probably not necessary since it sands off easily.

@@TheJecikalynn Ok, yeah, Home Depot sells 2'x4' plywood and the aluminum. They can cut it to a certain size for you. Hobby Lobby sells the pegs. You would just need a drill with a drill bit to match the pegs. The letters can be stenciled on, or cut with a vinyl cutter.
