Starting with 9oz vegetable tanned leather, the outline of the cleaver is traced. The welt will be made first, this is the spacer between the sides of the sheath. Once the welt is cut out, the sides are then cut out with one side having an extra strap for a bucket to hold the cleaver in the sheath. A little more rough shaping is done with the razor knife before contact cement is used to glue the 3 pieces together.
Once glued together, the sheath is taken to the belt sander and given a final shape. The edges of the sheath are then beveled, and the holes for the buckles are punches out. The sheath is then taken to the Cobra 3 leather sewing machine to sew the sheath together. After this is done, the sheath is dyed with Angelus Jet Black leather dye, then the extra stain is buffed off. Finally Resolene is applied to the sheath, and once dried, is buffed out.
