So... This video got my attention because I saw a wierd horned character holding a snail and my brain short-circuited and it turned into a scav holding a popsnail. Obviously I clicked to check out the channel and eventually got to this video and watched it even though I have absolutely no interest in blender. I must say that it is a brilliant idea for videos to include a character like Bapharoth and seeing how these 3D objects are done is really cool, especially the details, it just fills me with joy. Naturally I looked more through the channel and clicked on the shorts tab, even though I despise and never watch them I just wanted to see. And to my surprise I saw a Gourmand... I am glad that my Rainworld senses aren't fooling me.

Wow, this was helpful. I always end up doing things the "wrong way" because of how I learned Blender. Take the shell for example, I wouldn't think to use curves, I would carve it all out in sculpt mode.
@dyspie
Ай бұрын
Thank :3 a lot of the times the "right way" is very dependent on you as an artist (obviously there's some objective things but generally in terms of workflow things are more subjective). Like personally I am not much of a sculptor, so it makes a lot more sense for me to take this route, but I'd consider a sculpt and retop also valid. :)
@RoseKindred
Ай бұрын
@@dyspie Yeah, I agree. I did not realize there were specific workflows for all that Blender can do. I got into it for physical 3D modeling and printing. When I started there were very few who showed what I needed. I eventually "pieced together" a workflow that works, not optimized and slower. But little tricks like to make the shell are such a huge time saver.

Is this method of using curves as much as possible before committing to geometry better than doing the old fashion modeling/sculpting? Also btw you can put the minus sign of the notes panel in quick favorites to quickly clear your viewport from any notes you made, I like using them a lot but it gets kinda annoying to erase all the time. Love the high quality channels with low subscribers, remember me when you get to 100k haha.
@dyspie
Ай бұрын
Using curves as long as possible just allows you to keep your core shapes live and more editable, it's pretty optional though. I like doing it, but not using curves and just going straight to box modeling is also valid :) For specific things though I would extremely suggest using curves for as long as possible, like if you are trying to model a posed character or if you are doing something with a lot of thin parts like flowers ^^ oh nice tip on erasing the notes! If I remember I'll try to use that haha

So is this the thing I have to do before I start trying to sculpt? Been trying to make bodies all day and everytime I try to, my objects are too insufficient in area and my geometry becomes way too pixelated. I keep feeling like I need to add more of something but never know what. I haven't done any basics other than creating a sphere once in a demo class for blender.
@dyspie
24 күн бұрын
Hmm so what I would say to that is the workflows between box modeling and sculpting can overlap, but they don't have to. Technically you can just create a blob and start sculpting from there. Personally I am not a big fan of sculpting, so I lean way more into the modeling aspect. Hm not exactly sure what you mean by insufficient in area, but the pixelated geometry might just be because when you go into sculpt mode in blender it tends to set flat shading instead of smooth, so you'll get a very pixel look if you have a dense mesh that's pretty normal. But yeah sorry hard to give more advice without being able to see the model or what you're doing, I would say though if you wanted to be a sculptor you might want to do Zbrush instead. Blender is better at sculpting than Maya but I definitely wouldn't choose it as your software of choice if you primarily are interested in sculpting. Hope that helps :)
