I've watched easily over 100 leathercraft videos on KZitem and Instagram, and this is the first time I've ever heard anyone explain the quality of the different parts of the side of leather. I've observed through hands-on projects that there were different grain strengths in the same hide, but I really appreciate those few moments you took to explain it more fully. Thank you!

Hey mate! I stepped on the last video about the patterns and started making a lady's purse. I'm using a single wide strap for the bottom and sides, connecting the front and the back+flap which have rounded bottom corners. Using an oily green 7-8 oz for the main body, dark brown 6-7 for the bottom and strap, and a killer duck yellow 4-5 for some interior design. Happy to report, I turned my first bag out last night! It was indeed a struggle, I didn't skive anything for lack of a tool. I'm learning how to do it with my modeling knife, but the results vary too much for now. I'll try to dampen the allowance on the dark leather and hammer it folded in place for a flatter bottom. As you can probably tell, I'm loving your content!

@ClaridgeLeather

Thanks for watching! I’m glad you found it helpful. 4 to 5 ounce Leather will make a great bag. You are exactly right, you can cut a 2 inch wide strap and double it over. One thing you could do also is fold both sides of that 2 inch strap to meet in the middle, so folding a half inch over from each side so they meet in the middle. Then sewtwo seams down the middle, leaving two finished edges on the 1” wide strap.
