Change the button type to edge instead of toggle should fix your issue. 13:36

Awesome! That is exactly what I was looking for. For whatever reason it has an error when trying this in the app I used but the Shelly Cloud app allowed it to work properly.

So with it in edge mode, you can use the light like a normal light and not have to do the on/off thing? That allows Smart Control from the phone to turn it off, and then walk over and turn it on from the light switch?

Brett - great that you gave this a go but I have concerns. The fact that you trust a non contact voltage stick (often called a death stick) is scary. Use a multimeter to test for live leads and throw that thing in the trash. Also with wire nuts, you have to have the right amount of copper - you can't skimp because the leads are too short. There are other solutions if you haven't got enough lead that are far better, like Wago's or you could have cut one of the spade terminals off, crimped on a male version and used heat shrink to insulate the connection (probably better in something like a rangehood which is going to be subject to heat a lot). Great that you perservered but if it were me I'd be swapping out that wire nut for another solution.

Few things. Noncontact voltage testers are used by actual tradesman all the time and trusted by linemen all the same up to incredible voltages. Secondly wire nuts are plenty and if you look at most electrical codes domestically they’re the preferred method. Wagos are nice but aren’t adopted USA wise broadly because wire nuts have an actual manufacturing standard domestically while any import will label a lever connector “wago”.

Thanks for the great installation details. Did you consider just using a smart bulb?
@TechWithBrett
Жыл бұрын
I couldn't get the lights out to find out the type of bulbs and then smart bulbs can't be used if the power is out. The Shelly 1 allows for it to be used manually or from the app anytime.

@TechWithBrett Hi, can you switch the lights on and off manually also?
@TechWithBrett

Yes I can. And the pinned comment taught me that I can switch to Edge mode and then with on change of the switch i can now turn off or on from the switch even if I previously used the app or voice control.

You probably should have disconnected the hood light switch. I can see that causing issues. Then add a remote smart switch so someone can turn it on/off locally without using an app or voice.
@TechWithBrett
Жыл бұрын
This can be done locally or with the app, sorry if that was not clear. The little switch on the side of the hood only turn off power to the light and fan and since it only gives power to the knobs it wouldn't have worked there. There is no other switch to the hood.

The wiring makes no sense at all, I have a similar one and it has 6 terminals, how come this one only has 5? how come there is one terminal for the switch, the switch has 2 wires and not one mine has 2 terminals for the switch, it also has 2 terminals for the load and two terminals for the AC. the wiring on this is way too confusing , how can it work if you only connect one wire from the switch, where does the other wire from the switch connect to? ground? the cheap two dollar one I bought from China is way easier to understand ironically.

I think that might be a project for another day but I believe it would work. I think it does run through a 12v system so I would need to switch modes and then get the Shelly that dims to change speed.
