Hey Colt, i love all your content. In the last weeks i totally rearranged my little studio and i change from the office desk i had for many years with speakers mountet on the wall to a didicated studio desk, maybe you inpired me a bit to doo this. :-) So now i have my speakers sitting on the studiodesk and i had the same issues as you. Yesterday my ISO-Pucks arrived and it sounds like day and night, crazy little life savers! When i understand the manual right, it is important that the logo will face to the front OR to the back for an optimal result, if this is realy the case, than you set the pucks wrong for the left speaker i think. Looking forward to your review of the "a little bit smaller BIG" Focals. Keep up the good work! All the best from Germany Sebastian

As to why some of the tech from the home audio world to pro and the reverse has really confused me. I rock the IsoStands myself. And they are as important to me as room treatment.

it would`ve been nice if you measured the room with measuring mic and provided a measure graphs before/after the pucks, i mean, so we can all see the difference with the measuring of the room and see how many dbs (and in what freq range) they affect. That`s the best test, i mean, the whole point is to have as flat freq response as one can achieve, and if these pucks reduced low freqs peaks etc i would def be down to buy them... if you can measure (if you have a mic) maybe on your insta or yt shorts as a follow up clip?
@Truth565
2 жыл бұрын
Although there’s no harm in remeasuring. It’s not about the room. It’s about sound transfer, especially as the Focals were coupled to the concrete blocks and the concrete blocks were coupled to the floor. So, the end results will include, interference from whatever is vibrating in sympathy (may or may not be detectable) and loss of low end punch and clarity from the monitors. I don’t think the room measurements would be greatly impacted. You’re not changing the frequency spectrum or or adding volume.
@ChaxSouthSide
2 жыл бұрын
@@Truth565 yes but, you are not measuring the room, you are measuring the sweetspot, and by adding decoupling you are definitely changing lower harmonics, low dips and peaks, and definitely reducing (or lets say retuning, shifting) or maybe even adding some dbs somewhere else in the freq spectre in your sweet spot. Therefore, in acoustics, what does it mean saying "it sounds better"? You like the sound better? It feels less boomy? That doesn't mean the freq responce is more flat, maybe the tilt effect is the reason someone says it sounds better. Or it maybe it gives bell curve or smiley curve, or you just find your system sounds dull and by defalult everything you change would "sound better"... i agree that it sounds DIFFERENT, but, we should define the term it sounds better. And in acoustics, as in monitors, and everything about them - everything is about the room (sweetspot) dbs, rev time, freq response, room mods etc... and in mixing and mastering, its more about the room, decoupling, placement, than monitors themselves... Dont get me wrong, I get the idea "it sounds better"(as Colt said in the clip) but everything that has to do with acoustics, especially decoupling devices, materials etc, the only way to trully say it affects something IN A BETTER WAY is by measuring, and saying A sounded this way and now with this change B sounds this way... now lets compare them... and if B is positive change then we can conclude "it sounds better with this" or "this device/thing makes B sound better than A in that and that way"
@rockitman403

ISO-Pucks do work great, but they do not work as you described, Colt. According to ISOAcoustic's website, their products "are directional and designed to be positioned with the logo facing in the same direction as the motive forces of the speakers. As a result, they manage the energy on-axis." So they don't move up & down, they move forward & back on axis with the speakers movement. They restrict movement in all other directions. That's why the logo needs to either perfectly face forward or backward to work properly. They may work well enough to notice a difference when positioned incorrectly, but not as well as when positioned correctly. I love these things! They made a big improvement in the way my monitors sound.

If budget is an issue, buy hollow rubber balls (approximately the size of tennis balls) and cut them in half. Put the large round side facing down so that the speaker sits on has the smallest surface area touching it. Speakers should have the most minimal amount of surface holding them. The larger the surface touching speakers the more vibration transfers into what they’re on. Abusing problems. It’s the best and cheapest alternative to these pucks. It is the same principal as the pyramid and conical sound absorbers that audiophiles use for vinyl record players.

I'm very excited for your Trio6 video. I have the Solo6 Be's and in a small-medium sized room (8' tall x 10'10" x 12’2”). Due to my room and all my bass trapping, Sonarworks is boosting some parts of the low end in my Solo6's by 9dB, and the speakers are already a little shy in the low end so I think I want more low end representation, but don't want a sub because 1) apartment neighbors and 2) I don't want to complicate my setup with sub management. I've been eyeing up the Trio6 but am curious if 1) they're too big for my room, and 2) if I'll notice a big sound improvement. I'm 3 feet from my monitors since they sit on my desk. I'd appreciate any advice for people like me in this very-nearfield situation. Also, I love my Isoacoustic stands! May have to get the pucks if I want to have Trio6's on my desk. I would. I have a different brand pucks, but same concept. They basically reduce or prevent (mostly) low frequencies from transferring to whatever the monitors are placed on. So even if your stand is decoupled from your floor, if your monitors are directly on the stand, there will be transfer to the stand. This is just physics although, some like to think it’s voodoo or snake 🐍 oil. I have my monitors on a stand but also use the pucks.
