Thanks tarekith! I just bought a 0-coast and LOVE it. This is the best overview I have found yet. I great job in explaining what each of the sections do...thanks again

Thanks for posting this--was helpful. Recently decided to go with the Pittsburgh Modular SV-1 for my initial step into modular and awaiting its arrival, but I'm still curious about the 0-Coast. Your stuff with the pedals was amazing--agree it really opens things up.

Great video. Best overview I’ve seen yet. I like how you went over the different functions and explained how you might use them. Everyone else just tells you what’s there and not how it can be used. Thank you!

I was looking for a great straight-forward intro into the O-Coast, and you've done it. Great that you mentioned the need to tune the oscillator and to calibrate as well. Really good. Thanks!

Solid review, as others have said. I absolutely LOVE that patch around the 22:00 mark, by the way. It's fantastic. Reminds me of a haunted, long abandoned version of Coney Island.

I started with the Mother-32, but I'm likely to buy the 0-coast too. How can you get all the functionality without paying a bunch more for individual modules? That being said, I'll probably end up with a row of Eurorack modules, something like the _Mother's Big 0 Helper_. -Does the 0-Coast have any End of Cycle triggering like Maths?- ( Edit: I now see the EOC, lower mid on front panel) I could see adding just a Make Noise Function instead of a complete Maths, if I already had the 0-Coast. These are cool little synths. Tony Rolando seems like a really cool guy with some of his creativity gleaned from working at Moog. The Dreadbox NYX looks great too.

Nice overview. Some great soundscapes at the end - very West Coast and deceptively beautiful. Have just got mine and agree it’s a noodles synth and I can get lost for hours. I have also taken a lot of _photos with my phone of patches just so that I can revisit. It’s a whole different world from iOS music making.

a mean and nasty brutal synth . . . still not sure . . . this one or a novation circuit for strange sequences in my set up! . . . i've heard a lot of smooth sounds from the 0 coast . . i like this groaming filter sound . . good vid and keep up that dronesound
@ShilohJanowick

It's not a filter. It's a wavefolder, reflective of west-coast synthesis. It adds harmonics instead of subtracting them.

Cool review...always dig how sincere and honest you seem about what you’ve learned about the item being reviewed. What do you think of this paired with an OP-1? And some of those patches sound like the soundtrack for a dimension between Blade Runner and Aphex Twin ambient works vol.2.
@tarekith
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think paired with an OP-1 woud give you a very unique, though rather limited sound design options. That's just me personally though, by all means go for it if that way of working is appealing to you.

tarekith I have an RME UFX for producing and screwing around, but when it's time to track my analog stuff, I'm bringing out the Prism Sound Atlas, it's like my dog, I love that thing. The Hilo seems to be the most true and accurate when observing wave forms and it sounds incredible, I went with the Prism converters b/c I love the sound and I needed mic pres. Great vid man, I'll be checking out the other ones.

Nice review Tarekith. I'm pretty interested in buying one. How do you send midi from Live? Are you doing this through external instrument on midi track? This would be ideal for me - I would like it to behave like another plugin in Live. Also how do you have it connected - through midi output on your interface? I recently updated my interface but I skipped the option of midi din ports, now I feel I could made a mistake if I would like to run external gear like this. Do you know any other good solution to send midi out from computer? I know something like iConnectivity but I don't know if I want another box on my desk :). The best would be just connect straight from usb/thunderbolt on mac to the input on 0-coast :)
@tarekith

Yes, I use an external instrument plug in in Live, its no different from any other MIDI gear in that respect. For MIDI out, I just have a cheapo 1x1 MIDISport from M-Audio, nothing fancy. There's $5 knock offs on Amazon that will work fine too.

Hey buddy, I was thinking about getting a very similar setup. Can you please explain how its all connected to ableton? Do you need some sort of sound card? This is all starting to add up! I already have ableton and a push 1. What else would I need other than the 0-coast (or similar, like moog 32)?
@tarekith
6 жыл бұрын
Sun Tzu yes you would need some kind of sound card if you wanted to record the 0-Coast, plus a midi interface to send midi to it.
