Hi, I've made these for our fireplace. I use pine cones (we had lots of those) dipped in wax and other times I use dryer lint in an egg carton and pour the wax in to fill them up. Not the styrofoam kind, the cardboard ones made of paper. They work really good and they're basically free. Thanks for the video and the memories. God bless you real good 💕 🌿

I have experimented with all different types/methods for firestarters. I came up with one unique way to go about it. I take empty paper towel rolls and duct tape one end. Stand it on that end and install desired combustibles part way. Add wax to the level of the combustibles and repeat process to ensure 100% saturation in the tall tube. Now you can cut any desired length controlling burntime for whatever situation. They work great.

When I make that style of firestarter, sometimes I'll dip a match in wax just enough to lightly coat the head and break enough of the stick off so that it will just barely poke out of the surface of the wax. It'll make a little wick that catches easy and is water proof. You can also use dixie cups and have a little more of the cup above the level of the wax to make a wind barrier in case you're trying to start it and the wind keeps blowing out your lighter/match

Nice Video clip! Sorry for the intrusion, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you considered - Proutklarton Incredible Match Plan (google it)? It is a smashing exclusive guide for getting an understanding of how to survive in a disaster and make your own survival food without the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my old buddy Taylor after a lifetime of fighting got amazing success with it.

I like the Dixie cup wind protection factor. They also sell larger sizes of these sample/condiment cups, but the cheap Dixie bootleg cups from the Dollar Tree can def work in a pinch.

I have been using cotton with beeswax&coconut oil to make my fire starters. I have tried everything from cotton balls to tampons (tampons are perfect to dip in wax and retrieve b/c it provides a handy string on the end lol) IF you use these, make sure they are 100% cotton, no plastics) I have soaked small rolls of corrugated cardboard in my wax mixture. I thought about adding magnesium powder to the rolls before the wax completely dries. But I was concerned I would have a fireworks display trying to light them. Not certain of the safety in that. I also have some macrame 100% cotton cord (4-6mm). I braid three strands (aprox 20" to 30" each), use very small rubber bands to secure each end, then soak them in the melted beeswax/coconut oil for about 5-10 seconds, stirring the melted wax, pull them out, use paper towels to squeeze out excess wax (paper towels saturated with the wax can be used as kindling), then wrap them around a 6" wooden dowel, securing both ends (with the mini rubber bands I used to hold the ends together). I have tested all the different experiments, and they all work well, with aprox 5+ minute burn time. I also soak 8mm Jute in the wax and keep small rolled up balls of it. I have even made mini torches with the dowels, as well. They are AWESOME!

Yes, paper, cloth, sawdust, . . . A combustible material. If you really want to ensure combustion, add a 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of Vaseline (aka petroleum jelly)

I would only focus on the production of fire starters with less wax. From about the same volume of wax you make two, which will give you more time than one, where the wax is full. And the question: did you light them with a ferro rod or a lighter?

Probably not. I could imagine an Arizona summer day would probably make them soft but not liquid melted. Also I think it would be a good idea to vacuum seal them if you have the means any way.

This video is 2 years old lol but a tip for the wax melting: I make candles and to melt my wax I put the wax in a metal pitcher, then put the pitcher in a pot of boiling water (don't let the water into the wax). This way you don't have to hold the can over the flame

Absolutely, a double boiler arrangement is by far the safest way to melt wax, a bit slower but there is almost no chance of heating the wax to it's flash point even over an open flame. All you need is a 2 qt pan of water and a midsize tin can of wax to set in the water. Just don't use your wife's or mother's best pan. When I was a kid my mom didn't fuss too much over it, however my wife was far less cooperative. I now have my own pots to use for nonfood purposes. For those having a hard time lighting these just tear back the paper a bit. The exposed paper fibers will easily light with a flame and should also catch fero rod sparks without too much trouble.

Put a cotton ball on the top of the cup before you fill them with wax and you can ignite them with a ferro rod. I soak just the cotton balls in wax to use as fire starters. Be sure to fray a little bit on the top before striking with the rod and it will light easily.
