I dont even own a hand saw. I watch these only to see the sublime timing of the microjig advertisement. It must come in at a time both expected but ever so slightly off rhythm so as to still be a surprise. Today was quite exceptional.

Out East some of us are still thawing out from winter while you West coasters are enjoying your early spring... ;-) However the indoor grow operation has sprouted and soon the various seeds of cucumbers, peas, strawberries, carrots, garlic and basil will be ready to plant outside... once the ice/snow fully melts.

I have totally had my fill of winter and snow... about 10 in. of that fluffy white crap yesterday, and can't wait for spring. I built the planter that you made last year for my wife and I was planning on building another one. Spring is here, the annual garden project is up. Perfect timing, this weekend will be the first quite warm weekend of the year here in Holland. With a cat around, don't you need add something to make the boxes sit a little more stable on the rails? They look a little tippy.

Finished this project today. Very quick and easy. Pretty fun and nice project. Sucked a bit for me though because I live in NM and the wood warped by the time I got it home -_- But one suggestion I have for when you plant in the boxes: get some landscaping fabric or plastic. Line the inside up with a little bit of it and just use a staple gun to line up the box with it. Make some slits or holes in the bottom for drainage. This will help prevent your soil becoming contaminated from the material in the stain or finish (if you finished yours.)
@JimBeshears

So Steve I just finished building this, and it turned out pretty good. I think the measurement for the sides of the boxes may be off, when I finished the first one there was about 3/4" hanging off both the front and back along the long side so I trimmed it off with the table saw. Also locating the middle shelf I did by measuring the point where the shelf frames come off the main leg, dividing it in half, and using a level to square them up. Thanks a lot for all you do, love the Gripper!

When I'm building planter boxes, I like to leave a little bit of a gap between each of the bottom boards. This is to let water drain out partly for the plants, but mostly to protect the wood from getting water logged.

I like this project and I have a perfect spot for it. Just need the weather to actually represent Spring. Michigan has a tendency to stay cold through March and sometimes into April. BTW I saw a similar planter project on Instructables that used a pair of pre-made stair stringers either 3 or 4 steps seemed to work. They put some back legs and cross pieces on them and some plastic planter boxes. I would build the boxes like yours. Very nice design.
