Speed running short 20minute mini games that work like chapters in a soap opera. a.) Wizard/psionic talking and making a protection deal with the local thief guild for his place not to get robbed. Draw card or roll 1d6, after the game for secret PC background, such as mind flayer, vampire etc .. b.) N/PC commoner class or 1st-level rogue, dock workers that has to fight off a pack of large rats trying to raid a crate of salted or smoke fish. c.) Starting play the player gets a PC handed to them of a 12th-level multiclass fighter4/ranger4/barbarian4. BAB+12. PC awakes to the sound of a large rat chewing on his leather shoe. It was meant to be a short 3min side game to pass the time for the rest of the players to show up. It turn into a 40min dice roll, the barbarian went into a rage, took 20dmg in multiple bites, and the rat got away with the shoe. The group voted that the rat receive the druid Awaken Animal spell along with three levels in rogue, honorary village Nesius for the campaign. d.) little green goblin rogue/wizard, goblin was searching for rats to eat around an enclosed courtyard home. Wizard casts Charm on goblin and asks what is he doing. Goblin holds up rat and said hunting rats. Wizard keeps goblin around. Goblin overhears the students talk over Spellcraft and Arcane knowledge to the point he could cast Cantrip.

All my good stories are from WotC 3e. Easier rules for multiclassing than what AD&D had, along with at that time during the early 2000's too many rule lawyers and gate keepers hated non-weapon proficiencies and many DM at my first public gaming shop loved to screw over wizards. After about my first year I and the other new players just stop playing with those people. F-cking so call purest that trash talk other people playing other gaming systems. Posers all around. AD&D is not a role playing game you get attached to said given PCs, it is survival horror dungeon crawl. Also unlike D&D where melee is base on strength all other game systems roll dexterity to hit. Along with limited non-weapon proficiencies rules there is no level skill growth like in other gaming system. In TMNT they had completely non combat related skills such as Pinball or table tennis. b.) Also dealing with late 1998 to 2000's gate keepers in their thirties given zhit to younger people over , " we know what real D&D is." Whitewolf/ World of Darkness (WoD): Mage the Accession which rip off just about everything out of a Wicca book and turn conspiracy history into a d10 rpg. Then WotC came out, and we had to hear, " Roll under the PC ability stat is the only Real way to play D&D." Other posers that only played % base skill system snob their noses at AD&D, so I show them the section in the books that states the rules are only suggestions. Each point on a d20 represent 5% out of a 100% of a given action. So make fighter class have a requirement of having Dex:9 granting a base 45% to hit and each +1 bonus on Thac0 grants an additional +5% to hit. So I converted a group of 9th-level AD&D PC with non-weapon proficiencies into a full % base game and flip those PC into the TMNT/Robo Tech setting.

WotC Star Wars 3e core book follow with Rebelion campaign source book. Most N/PCs start off as 4th-level single or multiclass characters. Along with giving stat skill rank write ups on corporate owners and military governors, and fleet sector admirals. Profession skill" administrator." and Profession ( soldier ). Profession ( law enforcement) is what Boba Fett has and it is dealing with law enforcement paperwork, regulations, and tactical movement in making raids to capture targets. So we flip that into our D&D. b.) Flip coin or roll dice for starting class for max number of skill points. Most start with rogue for the most skills points. In short write up. Profession( farmer) 1 or 2 ranks cause 80% of pre industry trackers were farmers and you need to know which parts of the vegetable garden plants that won't poison you. Profession ( soldier/militia member ) basic weapon training, tactics, following and issue orders. Craft ( a few of them ) How quickly and well you make a given item. Profession ( to sale you craft item) Diplomacy or Bluff on how much you can get for said item. There goes your first 4 to 8 skill points. c.) Everyone has full time jobs, and it is your turn to clear out large spiders that is under the mill or in the barn loft. Road patrol to look for bandits or goblins. It is your turn to stay up all night as a village night guard. Base on tech level, you may not be able to afford full plate armor but you are a big boy, you may be a peasant but the local noble is training you for heavy infantry. Your family keeps you honest so don't try running off with that armor. d.) Carpenters' equipment, 1d4+1 carpenter's hammer hatchet/ little hand axe, large chopper draw combat knife 1d4+1, yard stick is a rod or light club 1d4. Leather armor coveralls with helmet. Start the game off with them going into a dungeon, Star Wars new hope style, no background just clear out the dungeon, at the end of the adventure they find out in was a 20ft by 60ft two level basement. Kill a few large to giant vermin and find a lost dog. It was your babysitter and schoolteacher house, your payment was fresh bake cookies. Campaign plot twist your schoolteacher is a mind flayer, secret leadership of the port town, she dots on you as a grandmother, .. now roll for psionic wild talents. e.) At time I hand out index cards with prewritten PC, of 4th-level multiclass with full hp on each hd. For some reason the dmg dice real hates the player with the PC with the most hp. Examples, .. i.) Old dry rotted staircase, dexterity Reflex rolls to make sure the stair don't break from under you along with the rotted wood coming down on you. Only a 10ft drop. Option you can sit down on the landing edge twist turn and drop down with no skill check and no risk of dmg. The player PCing the fighter arch type with the most hp, falls through the stairs and takes a full 1d6, 6dmg. ii.) Dog running from a giant rat bumps into the PC, dex/str rolls to keep from being bounced into the wall for and extra 1d4 dmg. PC takes a full 2d4 (8dmg.) iii.) Stuck door, so try to open it with a shoulder bump, rolls a 20 on strength check, follow with dex check to keep from falling through. Rolled dex crit failed, takes 1d6 falling tackle dmg, 6 rolls up. Everyone at the table starts to call that player's PC " Murphy." iv.) PC falls through rotted floor boards, only takes one dmg but fails his dex to remain standing and slip to his back side for no extra dmg. Other player yells down the hole and ask if he is okay. All clear and just leaves the guy in the second level. That player PC gets the random encounter roll of mice and large centipedes, rolls Will save to deal with panic attack of losing their zhit, " Get them off, get them off !" End result that PC only takes only 1 dmg from the whole dungeon. The rogue1/fighter1/ranger1/barbarian1, CR:4, BAB+3 with 48hp total suffers from slap stick and knocks himself out walking into a door frame with a helmet on. No real monsters or melee combat in the basement, just mystery tension build up from being in the dark unknown and jumping from large rats or bugs.
