OMG, I'm a big 1st generation Mustang Guy. I know what I'm looking at, and I know all the problem areas. I wouldn't have touched the 66. I'd have told the seller all its bad points. I'd have chosen what you said was a dumpster Fire!!! LOLLLLLLL It was the best choice. But did it have a drive train? That would bring the cost up, but it makes the possibilities endless as to what could be done to it.

No Drivetrain no. I forgot to factor that in there sadly. Wish I was better at this YT thing hahaha

@lostsocketgarage No problem!!! If I had the funds, I'd like a Cyote with a standard shift. I had a few 1st Gen Mustangs. The last one was a 67 Shelby GT350, 4spd, candy apple red was its original color. It looked like a million bucks after paint. I wish I still had it. We all make mistakes, don't we?

One last question if you’re going to convert a coup to a Shelby fastback, 1967 model, you have to replace the hood and front bumper too right? Initially I didn’t realize the hood is longer until the other day but it seems like I never hear people talking about replacing the hood on conversions.
@lostsocketgarage

Yes, you can do the Long hood. For the conversion itself though, nothing gets touched up there.

Yes, quite a bit actually. Most Measurements are different and the parts are completely different.

I want to do this right now so bad I can’t stand it. I’m afraid if I wait, the price is just going to get worse. I’m kind of hoping the economy collapses here in the next few years to bring prices back down to normal, but my luck the price on these will just grow and grow. Please tell me I’m wrong About the prices of these mustangs 🙏 (Yes I realize how ridiculous my comment is)
@rb67mustang

Sorry, the prices will always be high because of supply and demand. Even if the economy is reset, the pay scale will be reset as well. How many will lose their jobs, and even homes in the process? If you have the funds, stop waiting.

I'd love to tell you things will come down in price, but honestly in the parts and labor industry right now, it is as cheap as its going to be. Production caught up after covid mostly but prices are still not down. As for Mustangs..... there is no more supply. They don't make these new anymore. So prices for real fastbacks will continue to go up, which will pull the prices of converted cars up, which will pull coupes up too. When you have the money, do it. I just don't see prices coming down. I'm sorry

Given the deterioration due to age of most 1960 muscle cars, aren’t you just better off to purchase all the body structure and sheet metal new. You will save hundreds of hours repairing old bodies and have a much better vehicle.
@MarkShireman

You can still have the original engine, transmission and suspension.

Completely situational. most of the time, its cheaper to get a rough coupe though.
