Great advice, and I’m so glad you mentioned a clean smell, not a migraine-inducing designer candle scent. I would add that you can do fresh flowers very inexpensively if you dedicate a corner of a garden (or a couple of containers) to growing flowers that you intend to cut and bring in to the house. I currently have daffodils that I grew myself but I also grow tulips, irises and all sorts of other flowers over the course of the spring and summer, most of which are only a few £s/$s for a pack of bulbs.

Yep, I can't have candles in my place because pretty much ALL smells are migraine-inducing with my family. However, working on keeping the house cleaner (Winter is always a bad time for me), and hopefully getting a bit of spring cleaning done. LOVE that Garrett said that part of spring cleaning is maintaining your place, not just clean it, with nail holes all over the place.

I really loved this one. I watch alot of those remodeling shows and the thing I notice most often costing the new owners a ton of money are little things that could've been yearly upkeep that were never done and ended up rotting or molding or staining or chipping. A home is a huge investment why wouldn't you try and keep up little thing here and there that'll insure your homes shelf life and value

Oh, clutter makes me anxious. It's so chaotic and hardly conducive to a tranquil and relaxing home. I did a ruthless decluttering a few years back and with every box and bag that left my home, I felt like another 5lbs was being lifted from my shoulders. "actually smells like dirt" made me laugh. Here's a trick we use for cleaner air circulation. We cut to size and tape a furnace hepa filter inside the air intakes to catch and trap moisture, dust, dog hair, etc. before it gets into the ducting. This will keep your ducting clean and mildew free and your air fresher for much, much longer.

Those are beautiful pans! Sometimes I leave a (clean) large pan on my stove just to make it look like the home is being used. Mine are hammered copper so I think they look like jewelry on my stove. With Alexa I can use the Sengled bulbs and adjust them to the color or brightness I like. I can even put a blue one in my bar and make it look so chic. Amen about the candles! I often see what to me feel like insanely high prices for candles but people talk about them as though it's just normal. Clean is a scent! Also like diffusers for a subtle scent, nothing too overpowering. What gets me the most is anything is sickly sweet. Instant headache. I would add to this list nice liquid hand soap in the bathroom/powder room and kitchen that have their own pump. You can buy plain ones for fairly cheap but it's just something a little extra. Also would add to wipe down kitchen cupboards and especially around any door handles in the house. They can get so grimy over time and it just makes everything look well looked after!

I think fresh flowers and real plants (but not too many) in nice vases or pots make a home more luxurious. I also think an organized home always looks more luxurious. Thank you Garret! Timely advice that makes a huge difference, costs little and takes minimal effort. Also: Open windows for fresh air! Put blankets and pillows in the sunshine to “air out”. It’s free. Buy lamps that take a tri light bulb- it’s like having 3 lamps in one! Many stores that sell pre owned home decor have them for reasonable prices. Replace all flimsy, mismatched cutlery with two sets of awesome cutlery. It’s not that pricey.

I am doing one room at a time starting with the 10x15 ft front porch. The main project is 12 one hundred year old French doors, (1 door, 2 sidelights, 3 transoms and 6 screens) Peeling paint, dirty panes, crumbling screens and rusted hardware...what fun! But it is what people see when they visit and sit in the livingroom so it has to be done. Wish me luck...

Absolutely, a home that’s clean and not cluttered, so you can relax. I think homes with amazing organisation in place look luxurious ; it’s something I am keen to learn how to do well. regarding scents and candles. I love having fresh air from open doors and windows, baking smells and flowers. I was never really a candle person but I purchased sets of waxed covered battery candles and have never looked back, one of the best things I have purchased. I am strongly against scented candles and burning oils, if you have pets in the house. They are extremely toxic to our fur babies. I have two dogs and three indoor cats and I will not buy real candles or even have those air freshener diffusers in the house.

OMG! Caulking the kitchen counter/backsplash is on my list for this weekend! Agree on everything. Having a home that reflects who we are is luxurious to me. We have interesting, high quality items (pottery, carved wooden items from Nepal, aboriginal artwork) as well as pieces by the artists we know. Every item is carefully chosen and special.
