Very nice tutorial. What’s the advantage of using the IR as opposed to just using the matched EQ? Is that just for use with devices that can’t load an EQ plugin?

You can just use the tone match within your DAW if you want. Turning the output into a ir is so you can export it to a vst like Helix Native, or Neural DSP or you can import them into a moddeler pedal board such as HX Stomp

6:54 Black magic indeed, Stevie! ... thanks for this video, it's a goldmine of info! I've just started using iZotope's Ozone 9 (specifically the "Match EQ" function) with Boss's tone studio (I bought a Katana 100 MK2 a few weeks ago) to bring "across" by hand-copying the Match EQ wave with the Boss studio's built in Parametric EQ -- it's something I picked up from a couple of other youtube users.

If using Ozone 11 match EQ, regarding the "smothing" and "amount" settings, would you recommend 0% and 100% to get the best pkssible match? I'm asking because some forums suggest "does not overkill/exagerate" with amount of EQ applied. 😊

Awesome! Finally found a video with using the same software/plugins that I have. Oh btw, I haven't tried it myself but since you asked: there seems to be a great method using Melda MFreeformEqualizer instead of Ozone EQ/Voxengo Decon with this method, looks like it's more accurate than Ozone kzitem.info/news/bejne/zqRj0HWrrIpyhX4

This is the tutorial I looking for Sweet I know that the ozone needs our play to matched the tone we after Btw is it true that the duration time of our play (our basic tone play to be matched) will impact the final result of the tone match? The longer the better result? Is there any minimum (how many seconds/ minutes) we must play to get it right?
@StevieMcLaughlinMusic
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, glad you found it useful. You can see in ozone that after a few seconds, the spectrum will stabilise. That is the tone match complete, playing beyond this time will not improve the tone match. Thanks 🤘

@@StevieMcLaughlinMusic Those tone matched IR are some hot topic going arround, especially in the Helix community right now I hopes Line 6 will continue to improving their modeling quality that can competes with the others new generation competitor modeler, can not wait the next updates they planned to released Okay so short duration of audio sample is adequate enough to makes ozone works right Thank you very much! 🙏

Sounds great and seems pretty easy to do. Have looked at other eq match videos and wonder about some things: You don't need to trim the IR? Seems to be a common practice to at least trim off in the beginning of the file to avoid latency, but maybe that voxengo plugin does that for you? Also, in other plugins people set phase to minimum and quality to best possible but maybe ozone don't have these options?
@StevieMcLaughlinMusic

Yes all the eq setting are set automatically in ozone, and I dont get any noticable latency. I've seen the melda eq might be an even easier process than this though

Mr. Stevie, bare with me please... When the isolated guitar is in stereo, may I work with the track as is or would it be better to make a mono track from the stereo by splitting the signals? The thing I've been "crashing" now is that some records have a different L and R guitars, I mean, is not only about a doubled guitar, so how to face that kind of tone matching work?

I'd just tone match the left and right side seperately, then make 2 IRs for the left and right side for my final patch

You can find a part of a song like the intro where only the guitars are playing, you can search the net for isolated stems of the track you want. I gues you could also try one of the ai demixing apps/plugins to get the reference but I haven't tried this

Hey man, thank you. I love your video and easy explanation. Have your improve your process/workflow of tone matching?? I have seen videos with different sweeps lengths (3 s, 4s, 12, and 15 s), what would be the best or the recommended sweep length as starting point?

Not experienced that before, did you trim the audio as small as possible, I think if you don't do that you get latency, but not sure. There's an easier way to make irs now using mfreeform eq. I need to update this video to include this method
