I think a lot of companies are forgetting that, even though makeup is super popular online the average makeup consumer isn't going to have an influencer's amount of makeup, and like Angelika said, most people aren't buying makeup weekly/monthly. I LOVE makeup, wear it most days and on my days off I love to play with possible new looks. I still don't own more than 5 palettes, 1 foundation and concealer and a few blushes and highlights along with a primer and a setting spray. I might buy new makeup every 3ish months and thats usually just setting spray and a mascara.

As a prior MAC employee, (I was let go after COVID hit) I can say that I don’t think MAC is doing as well financially as they seem. They have closed several counters & stores, world wide, & let go of hundreds of employees. I felt like the quality of the products, as well as some of the stuff they’d send us employees, were starting to really lack. They changed all of their real hair brushes, to synthetic, but kept the same price, & they clearly are not worth it now. I too, hated that they constantly just repackaged their staple lipsticks for every damn collection. They got rid of the Pro Longwear foundation which was a huge fan favorite. It’s sad bc I loved the brand so much & it was my dream to be a MAC artist. I hate to see them tanking.

Brands like benefit, mac, nars are here to stay, because they have staple products that people that aren’t necessarily part of the beauty community on youtube/instagram repurchase over and over again. They’re also pretty popular all over the world and people often forget that. I love stila’s liquid liner, its the best I’ve used. I repurchase one every couple of months. I think they’re basically coasting because of it Edit: the microtip liquid liner is also amazing for anyone that has trouble creating a wing! It doesn’t dry out like other ones I’ve tried

Jeffree Star Cosmetics is going through some lows even here in Brazil. Their products have been on sale for forever and even on cosmetics marketplaces the products are always on sale. Also, they were doing a “buy one get one for free” with their lipsticks and people were... disappointed to say the least. People said the lipsticks they got for free had a different formula to the regular one and only came in unsusable colors.

I think benefit is on its way out. It’s just very much 2015 KZitem mua and isn’t really a go to for many people anymore IMO

They can keep on for years only with their brow products. You don't realize how many regular people buy benefit.

Yes ppl on yt don’t like Benefit but, unfortunately, their brow volumizer is the best I’ve ever found. I keep trying to find a less expensive version of the Gimme Brow, but so far I haven’t. It’s the best for my sparse blonde brows. Also the Hoola bronzer is the only bronzer I’ve ever owned and I really love a couple of their blushes. So, you’re right that they don’t get any love as a brand, but I hope they stick around for awhile. So far, the only products I’ve found that are as good as the Gimme Brow costs even more.

Average consumers, especially those 35+ years old use and buy benefit very frequently. Benefit has been a staple brand for multiple decades, it’s like say Clinique is on its way out.

Before the pandemic, I used to pass by the Benefit store in SF on my way home from work and there'd always be a lot of people in there. I think they made good sales in-store/department stores and for working people, but they're not talked about online. I felt like they were never really talked about online in the first place?

With JSC it's Jeffree, obviously. I used to buy his makeup and I love his eyeshadows, highlighters and lipsticks. I just can't support him anymore. I would have bought Cremated and Blood Money should it be from any other brand. Even this green mini bundle, because honestly, I love weird lippies. Just not from him. I'm waiting for Jeffree to leave JSC so I could try their products again. I feel like Lime Crime is still overlooked, despite the quality of their palettes or highlighters. It seems that once they lost the trust of people they lost it forever. Ofra is just about highlighters nowadays and only about those original ones. To be honest, they don't seem to have interesting products anyway. The lipsticks are fine, but that's it. Benefit seems to be about brows and variations of cheekleaders palette. Laura Mercier anyone?Besides great powder and - what I heard - quite nice foundation, nothing she's ever done was a hit. The Balm - haven't heard of them for ages, constantly on sale

Jumping in on the highlighter talk in the beggining! I am a regular consumer, but i do love highlight. I have one "base" normal pan one and then 3 more specialty funky highlights. I have the pan one for four or five years and i havent reached pan yet. The funky ones are also still very much alive. And i went through a phase of only wearing highlight. I dont know what i will do when i hit pan on this one since its drugstore and i dont know if they still produce it! Hope this shed some (high)light on the matter! :)

I feel like Mac had so much hype initially is because a lot of the first influencers WERE just regular consumers so they were what everyone was talking about, but then the influencer and beauty world expanded and of course that means change in trends

I've tried different liquid eyeliners (Tarte, Glossier, Eyeko, etc.) but I think the KVD eyeliner is the best one. It stays on my face almost all day, it's easy to apply because it just glides on, and the product lasts a while. Hopefully they don't go out of business...

I always remember going on Beauty Bay for black friday and other sales and Jeffree star was often on sale. In the past, however, only the less popular shades and palettes would go on sale. In the last couple years with all the scandals this has changed. The fact that blood sugar goes on sale regularly and isn't permanently sold out anymore is a testament to where his brand is now

Kylie Cosmetics! kylie stans are buying it but the ENTIRE BRAND is on 50% off at Ulta. I feel like the kylie lip kits were a thing for a while in the same era as like the naked palettes, but now it seems like kylie ran out of ideas and every single release is the same. I'd never buy anything for full price bc of the straight lies and trash that the skincare line was (is?), if a brand can get skincare so horribly wrong, i do NOT trust them with cosmetics!

Nars foundations are well known. I still see a lot of KZitemrs talk about them being holy grails. They also received a lot of hype over their soft matte foundation last year. ABH Jackie Aina palette was great and the Jackie Aina one was all the hype in that year. I do agree that the Carli Bybel one was overshadowed but reviewers said the formula was not as good as the Jackie Aina one and the colours were not suited to POC Stila lipsticks are bomb. Lots of people still use Stila Besos as their staple red but they need to revamp definitely.

Yessssss on the Urban Decay thing. Used to love them but they have NOT kept up with the times. still making makeup that was trendy 10 years ago. All their launches just seem to be things that have already been done and it’s very uninteresting

The new naked wild west palette is getting good reviews. I’ve seen a lot of good videos about it. I would probably buy it if I were in the market for a new palette but I have so many that I’ve been inspired to dupe the looks with what I already have.
