Way back in cosmetology school, my instructor made us cut off all the applicators that came with our products lol. Pretty good way to keep you in the habit of being sanitary!

For mascaras and brow gels I usually take the original brush off so that it doesn’t get used on anyone no matter what.

I love the single use applicators. I also like the acrylic palette as putting stuff on the back of your hand like some people do might seem innocent enough to you but some people might not appreciate having stuff put on their face that was sitting on your skin just a moment ago

Yes! I feel the exact same way! I’m not going to lie, I originally got trained to work off the back of my hand and then a year in realized that people are not 100% down with that at all times.

With the spoolie wands I find once I have dip it into the mascara I bend the wand at the opening of the tube, it makes it easier to apply and also stops me from accidentally re-dipping back into the tube.

Hi Julie! You can SANITIZE sponges! Soak them in antibacterial dish soap to remove product. While wet pop them in the microwave for a few minutes. The high temp and radiation kills bacteria. Also can be done with your dish sponges. For those who love sponges. 😆😆😆😆😆 love your videos and watching you grow 🌱

BEAUTYSOCLEAN is a great brand. I buy their makeup sanitizing wipes; they use 70% alcohol, but there's other stuff added to prevent the product from drying your products out. There's a spray version, as well.

@@julieruby U should seriously consider getting a UVC box to clean brushes an tools, as well. ANY works; the ones marketed specifically for makeup are just marketing. The ones advertised for cleaning glasses and phones work perfectly. I have the Casemate CleanScreenz one from Target, but the giant EVLA Family Size UVC sanitizer would be probably better for you since your a makeup artist with hundreds of brushes.

Hey! Random thought… I’ll be doing it to my kit too because it JUST came to mind. Cut the tip off the mascara wand to the tube…. So that there’s no temptation to use the applicator with the Mascara wand.

Moving forward into the bridal industry was hoping you might come up w a video about ur fav brushes as buying many multiples to have sets for each client especially when working w larger groups is smart but also u would have minimal in ur individual sets so talking through this would be useful aswell as perhaps where u buy lashes in bulk. I’m a little apprehensive of some of the bulk packs on line which work out economical but unsure of quality???

All of them technically are 😂 As far as lashes go, you can buy bulk lashes from Frends Beauty and also get a pro discount on them as well. I personally buy the Ardell Naked lashes for most all my clients now but unfortunately there’s no buying in bulk for those.

For gel liners I sometimes spray it with 70% alcohol and roll it around on a paper towel then spray it again but everything else is defiately a scoop and palette situation. 😀🥰

Im a brush liner person that’s the best way I can apply liner. I buy the nyx epic ink it’s one of my faves and it’s 9 dollars and i give it to my client at the end of the service same with sponges and puffs

Oh good for you! I’ve never been able to do a liquid liner on others that well. I would maybe suggest using a liner disposable .. it may save you a bit of money instead of spending the $9 each time.

@@julieruby Ye it is newer. I believe it was released last year. I don't think a lot of people know they have that version. When I first started using CS cleaner in 2000 it didn't have a scent added, they added the vanilla a some point. I love how they removed the blue coloring too. Still today the best spot cleaner. Parian Spirit Brush Cleaner was a good one too.

I’ve used Parian Spirit as well but didn’t like the citrus scent and I don’t felt like my brushes got as clean. Awesome video. I was just scrolling through the Sephora app and came across the Cinema brush cleaning line. Some reviews mentioned their brushes shedding after using them. Have you experienced this? I’m currently doing a make up course. So much to it than I thought. Your videos are very helpful xx

I’ve personally never had this issue! Natural haired brushes will shed as a normal thing though so it could be that as well and ppl may just not be aware of that.

I use the Mac one because the cinema secrets has a strong vanilla scent and just like the sanitizer it can irritate, the only downside is the prize

Most of the shedding issues arise because of over saturating the brush with the cleaner (CS can break down the adhesive of the brush over time).

If I have time, but most of the time I’ll have to pack all my things up really quickly and get out of whatever room I’m in. I will however spray everything down with alcohol and let them dry for maybe 5 mins while I’m packing up the rest of my stuff but sometimes I just have to throw everything into my bag and get it depending on timing. It won’t hurt the products necessarily just make sure to clean them really well once you get home.

May be a silly question but you are saying once a (let’s say eyeshadow) brush has been dipped into a palette once and used on a client, it cannot be dipped back into a different shade of the same palette again for the same client?

Haha no worries! You can definitely work with a palette like normal - placing a brush in a powder multiple times. Once you are done though, the palette has to be sprayed down with alcohol. It’s only cross contamination if you are not doing this in between each person.

Any cream products have to be scooped out and put onto a sanitized palette. Creams are too thick for alcohol to penetrate.

Hi that’s a great question! The plastic bristles of the brush do not clean easily. The alternative would be to use an actual mascara fan brush. I’ve thought about doing this :)

You’re lucky you don’t have to get it, but I do agree that it’s smart to still have some credentials and try to get formal training :) I personally took the Online Makeup Academy courses and I really enjoyed them. I don't personally use actually powder puffs. If you're referring sponges...no you can't sanitize or wash those. They absorb product which means they'll always be bacteria that can harbor in the middle.

That’s a great question! Using alcohol directly will dry out the brushes and cause the hairs to fall out. I use Cinema secrets which is a spot cleaner, but it’s not 100% hygienic. This is why I choose to bring enough sets of brushes for the amount of people that I’m doing that job. I only use the spot cleaner if I’m switching colors for the same client.

@@julieruby Thank you. I try very hard to sanitize in between though. I bring my sister to sanitize my brushes once I'm finished with them and all my products before moving to the next person.

That’s definitely an option! I twist mine up extensively and sharpen it way down so same concept! :)
