MIC KNIGHT i loved mine too but i lost my entire hard drive like 3 times. Roland never addressed the bug after all these years, crazy. I lost a lot of music.. switched to Maschine Mikro right when they launched and have never regretted it for a second. Maschine is a wayyyy better sequencer, sampler, has all kinds of soft synths vsts etc... i use a SP404sx as well for the filters/effects and the Maschine as sequencer , notation ultranova as midi controller and thats my setup now. MV had some good filters and the EQ was cool but it is a dinosaur compared to Maschine now adays

@@Aaron-on3ro You are comparing completely different things. MV is a hardware standalone tool, unlike your Maschine, which is actually an empty box in the form of a controller and software. MV also connects to a computer without any problems and you can use both hardware tools and plugins

Thank you, I didnt even realize there was a reply.....I am just trying to figure out how to assign portions of the song to different pads. For example at 15:20 of this video he assigns the "woo-hoo", the horns and the drums to different pads and you can hear them play independent of eachother. When I auto chop it seems like its taking pieces of the song "glued" together without letting me "remix" it. .

Mike is pretty fast on that thing. It's pretty cool to have a computerless DAW. Of course it's more limited than modern software, but no worries about drivers, licensing ( FU Cubase), computers crashing, and lots of other issues. I hate DAW. I just record to my mixer, but I am a hobbiest and don't need fancy. Always wanted one of these as it looked like a nice alternative to software.

Sorry M., but without the original tracks, you won't be able to separate the instruments. The instructor in the video is simply taking chunks of the already mixed song and cutting them up. You might be able to achieve a similar effect if there is a part of the song where the instrument is playing unaccompanied. I hope this helps.

I just got an MV8800 and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on isolating individual instruments within a sample. I am trying to take a sample and separate the vocals from the bass line, from the snares, from the horns etc and then assign them to individual pads so I can play a specific instruments melody or vocals over my own baseline. Is that possible? I am very new to making music but am eager to learn, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks alot for the reply!! ....i didnt even know realize it was there...So at 15:20 of this video when he is copying the "woo-hoo", horns and drums to the different pads how is he actually separating them all from eachother? Not sure if im wording this right.. How do I just take the horns or drums from a song and assign it to a pad?....also do you know of any beginners tutorials or lessons?

Great question. Is this a track already mixed? If so, you won't be able to separate the instruments, because once a track is finalized, the channels (instruments) are permanently "glued" together as a single mix. You need to have the original tracks of each instrument in order to arrange and edit each instrument individually. A good example of this is Guitar Hero. The tracks gamers play to are often times rerecorded by a guitarist by the name Marcus Henderson.

I've thought about selling the MV8800 on some occasions throughout the last decade. I've officially owned it now since 2008 midyear so that makes up to 2017 midyear which is 9 years. It wasn't until this year started in 2017 that I realized some DEEP use of work in this studio machine. Then I vowed to never conjure up any avenue for getting rid of it. I knew then.

With CPU's as powerful as they are now,I don't quite see the need for a hardware based machine like this,as I use SONAR X2,and only briefly before that used a Tascam 2488neo,but with Roland making THIS still?? I guess it has its place? I'm only pondering the difference,I'm not putting this machine down,I'm just trying to learn more,as I didn't do any music for 20 years,and have got back in with a DAW like X1,and now X2,on 2 machines,and love it,I just don't know the advantages of the MV-8800.
@boombeatz27

Robert Sattler Hi Robert I hope this belated reply gets to your 4 years after. The MV 8800 has its advantages which are not televised or shown on the internet. There are ways to sort of make an auxiliary source of work , through some clickable interface (I don't remember as I don't currently have my machine by me), of MIDI parameters like velocity, after touch, and etc to create some space for optimizing a heavy mix into a rich arrangement. Think of composing which may be layered so as to accompany a lead, but using the same notes so it isn't considered a second arrangement. But sometimes that can be much too innovative, too inventive for its own good hence the melody eventually must loop and the producer loses the original pouring of creative juices (workflow). This is why the MV deserves some recognition here, it gets rep for having these parameters which can become advanced over the experience of the producer. In one instance there was a KZitemr here who found a workaround to the MV not featuring sidechain compression.

Reliable midi timing (in and out) and a focused, tailored, hands-on interface are enough reason for me.
