Nicely done Patrick!! I’m sure Craig is a happy camper. I knew Jim and Pal’s would resolve any and all issues my club member was dealing with hence my sending him to your shop. Keep up the good work! Al

Thank you for the referral Al, it was a pleasure to work on Craig’s 57!

New points, I hope also a new condenser. MSD 6A & electric primer pump makes these start real easy.

Yes, new points and condenser. You are right, electronic ignition would give it more and better spark. But this customer wants to keep the car as close to stock as possible and practical. Y Blocks are really smooth running engines.

Stock wiring is backup lights with headlights but I do what you did. Always install pertronix. Always install front disc brakes with dual circuit master cylinder and rear sway bar. Electric wiper motor allows better FE fuel pump when expensive stock pump fails. Always have old carbs rebuilt by competent mechanic. Over heating old engines are common, thorough coolant system flush, better fan blade and 165 degree thermostat (always test new thermostats in boiling water with thermometer). If it steers poorly have front end set 3-4 degree castor and box adjusted correctly. Only use proper zinc ratio engine oil. Makes Bird near to todays standards.

I have had 5 Baby Birds in Australia. 2 56's, 3 57's. Currently working on a 57 and have upgraded. 16inch Davies Craig thermo fan, and digital switch, done away with belt fan and spacer behind water pump that really causes pump to be almost in effective. Fitted Unisteer P/S rack, Petronic with 6A MSD, (behind glovebox) headers, A/C, Hotchkiss F&R anti sway bars, rewired with Halogen headlights and several relays. Also front disc brakes with double diaphragm booster, Ultima battery in the trunk. FYI. The temperature gauge sender is mounted at the rear as opposed to later Fords being at the front. I tried both switching back and forth. Front reads normal, rear reads hotter. This engine has been rebuilt with the rear galleries cleared out and matched to head gaskets. The heads are NOS from Dennis Carpenter, with new valves and springs.

Where did you get headers? Copper contact distributor cap with msd and don't let plug wires touch anything, even msd wires will arc at high load. Very few with rack steering. Mine's T85 OD 4:11 posi with trac bars, FTP long tube headers. Originally dual teapots switched to edelbrock 257 W/wcfbs only added 12hp, not worth the change and loss of the original excellent air cleaner. Built to safely spin 5500. Had to bulk up motor mounts and rear spring perches. Because of its instant power way more fun than my faster supercharged 57 ranchero with same trans/rear end. I dyno tune all my cars then run them like rented mules no problem, really great cars. 57 birds are 51/49 weight balance and there are a lot of little birds still making smiles.@@alansutherland9686

@@danontherun5685 Headers are Sanderson Headers. Should give maybe 15HP more. 10+ with removal of fan. I could also fit a 600 Holley, but makes it too sensitive to throttle. Will go well enough with what I have done.

Those headers lot better than stock, improvement based on cam. My performance cam/9.5 compression big intake gained 31hp/40tq with long tube headers but now only build best cruiser running gear, hot rod too much fuel and even stock engines are good tuggers in these. Watch original motor mount brackets for cracks and keep header bolts tight. Asian ball joints are too stiff causes bump steering for 5-7K miles. Mummert has best starter motors by far. So how's yer politics there? We're near civil war now.@@alansutherland9686
