In this video, I contract a Corinthian-style helmet from silicon bronze. I make this helmet in 2 pieces, which are welded together with a tig welder using a silicon bronze filler rod. The traditional Corinthian helmets were made from a single piece of bronze. The method used to do this is currently a hotly debated topic among historians. Some feel they were raised from a sheet of bronze. Others propose they were cast to a partially finished helmet then custom hammered to final shape. My personal hunch is the 3rd hypothesis in that they were hot dished from a block or thick disk. I plan to experiment with this method in future videos.
