@@RagnBoneBrown instead of building a reasonable house for reasonable creatures. Instead build them based around what a cat would actually do or use. For example some people recommend houses with two points of entry so cat won't feel trapped in.

Looking good. In future you may want to try cutting the bulk out of the circle with a jig saw to give your router an easier time. Saw just inside the line then your router is only having to trim a few millimeters back to the template rather than honking out the full cutters width 😊
@RagnBoneBrown
5 жыл бұрын
I considered that although because I’d already added the cladding there wasn’t quite enough room for the jigsaw base to be able to make the cut. I should have cut the hole earlier on! Although maybe I could have used the oscillating tool to do it
@ziggydiaz7601

When doing production runs for these, a mini circle cutting base for your router allows to cut the doors everytime perfectly round and leaving a very crisp edge. If cutthing more than one, the 1st cut door becomes your template. Great video!

Re the discussion below about cat behaviour. I live in a part of the world where there are all kinds of cats, wild and domestic, really big (cougars), medium (bobcats) and small (feral and domestic) and generally, they are 'cave' dwellers. Cats that don't live in groups (prides and clowders for instance) like their back covered so they can watch the entrance. Cats are seldom fully asleep when on their own. So any discussion around a cat feeling cornered in your cat houses is in my opinion coming from a place of not knowing cats very well. They can defend themselves very effectively if they only have one direction to be concerned about. I've lived with cats on and off for 50+ years and these are some of my observations over that time. Really, really like your cat houses, especially the one in this video. My only comment would be that I would like to see a hinged section of the roof that could be used for easier access to the interior for cleaning up the inevitable collection of smelly kitty litter.

I would highly recommend when cutting a hole with a router that you roughly cut the hole with a jig saw and then use the router at full depth, assuming the jig saw has not left too much material. Also with a bit of geometry the bevels on the cladding could be made more snug perhaps.

Nice project, man, that’s a happy cat. Sewing straight lines is pretty easy, actually, and you can get a sewing machine with no frills for cheap. Since you’re a beginner, making cushions like those should be a nice learning project. You’d learn straight sewing and how to sew a simple zipper. Also, since you don’t intend to make clothes (I’m assuming, here), it can be really helpful to know the simple things about sewing so you could make things for the shop and for your products. My work aprons and a friend’s were all done by me, for instance. I’d be happy to post a pic, if you’re curious. :)

Hot-gluing fabric... I can't sew either but I've had a pair of curtains that I've been meaning to trim for a long time. Maybe it would work? ;-) I enjoyed the video and the design of your cat house. All the best and hope you soon recover from feeling ill.

I think maybe it depends on the varnish that you use. Water based varnish from a can cures quickly (a few hours depending on weather) and the acrylic spray stuff cures in minutes, it’s brilliant for that. It stinks when you’re spraying it though!

I've recently built a shed 2.1m2 with internal measurements coming at 1.8m2 (if memory serves me right ) the internal measurement is from frame to frame not shiplap to shiplap ..... if you understand that I'll be amazed !!! Lol My question is would it be worth insulating between frame and the using a 6mm ply as the wall or is there another cheap method to sound proof the shed Clearly my space is limited so my work benches will be modular and multiple functions (eventually) I don't own a money tree !! Any advice would be nice haha cheers 👍
