A friend at work needed, or should I say wanted a decent clipboard so I told him I wood. ;)
I cut the boards to rough dimension, then ripped them on the table saw. That brought them down to a bit more than 1/4". Then I glued them together and clamped it up.
Couple passes through the planer and it was just at 1/4". I had to rip it to size and I noticed there was a see through knot on the one piece of cherry that I didn't want to have. Kinda hard to write when there's a hole. So the walnut is off center a little, but I think that just adds to the character. At least that's what I'm saying.
Rounded the edges with the disc sander, drilled the holes and counter-sunk for the clip bolts.
I didn't have any rivets that would work so I just used a couple 1/4" bolts that fit within my counter sink. Completely flush on the back side. Then a couple coats of wax and attached the clip.
Done.
