It’s not ideal but it is really affordable. If possible move your press higher up on the wall and give it a longer handle to give you more leverage. Also attaching a chain to the press handle and a pulley to the ceiling you could make it so instead of lifting you just pull down using your body weight.

Very cool and impressive; glad I stumbled onto this. A little winch is exactly what I was thinking while I was watching. Attach a D ring to the floor, another ring on the handle, another to the ceiling. Use a little winch and cable to bring the handle down, then move the winch and attach the hook to the ceiling to pull it up. That would be the easiest way. You risk bending your equipment if it's not quite right, you would have to make sure everything was cool before you implement it. A threaded screw would work too except you'd have to redesign a lot. Good luck.

To make the pressing easier without getting any expensive parts or machines you can make the bar longer for more leverage and you can attach weights so you don’t have to put as much force in it yourself. This was incredible to watch as I’ve worked in the plastics recycling industry for a little over 10 years and absolutely love the game of disc golf! I see you’re using HDPE, is it reprocessed HDPE Injection Grade? What type of Melt Flow Rate does your resin have? Only reason I ask is I’ve ran a Melt Flow Index Tester thousands of times and know the lower melt flow rate resin has a tendency to have more resistance when pushing the plunger down and back out. I come across HDPE Injection / Medical Grade that is the 15-20 melt range that might be perfect for what you’re doing! It also might be fun to try a high flowing, heavily mineral / talc filled PP to boost the weight of the disc for windy conditions. It would have a Discraft Jawbreaker plastic feel.. One last piece of advice, my company blends a PP based resin with PET and some other types of plastics. PP can almost become a glue once heated and cause some of the others to mesh. If the opening of the barrel and mold entrance is wide enough, you should be able to force something similar into it. Creating a sustainable product with something like food grade PP containers and small amounts of PET bottle. All recycled! The road is endless my friend!!!

Yeah I've been around discs my whole life the Wham-O frisbee disc is one year older than me, I can show you how to balance a disc the center of mass needs to match the center of the circumference or it's going to waste energy wobbling when you throw it. You can use a hydraulic ram from harbor freight to do that action Both ways also it wouldn't hurt to have a burner below it to keep the mold from cooling off until you're done injecting.

Hey panda. Welder fitter mechanic hear of 20 years or so. The cheapest solution to your pull and push needs to me is a chain fall small. You can use them in both pulling and pushing or up and down. You'll need a small rig to hook it up to, I would go for 1/4 inch tube steel 1.5* 1.5 inch or angle iron, angle is cheeper. Use straps rated for the right weight for the chain fall and get an engineer to give you the best angles for the chain fall to sit at. Over rate your concrete anker's safety first. A low gear ratio will pull less chain a high gear will pull more chain. The engineer should make it mechanicaly sound as it should not pull itself apart. Find three or four students to draft it for you, cheapest rout. One more thing pulling down is tuff you'll need to drape the chain over something and work it right, a come along is the next best option to my knowledge. Take it ez.

You could take a look at using a wheel instead of a lever for your injection method. Take a look at old school injection molding machines, in my experience, most have a large diameter wheel that you turn in order to inject the plastic and apply hold pressure. You could also add machined cooling lines into the A and B half of your mold, it will drastically cut down on your cool time.

(Three years plus too late, but for those that also wander by here): I wouldn't bat an eye doing this manually 20 years ago. Now that I'm old, doing things with power is mostly a requisite and a Lot cheaper than blowing a knee/shoulder out (again). Hydraulic pistons and pneumatic actuators to the rescue! Though if you want mechanical advantage and the reliability of analog, a screw press would be a decent filler, or even an air-assisted hydraulic press, but you have a rather narrow operating range with the latter. That said, with how relatively cheap a linear actuator is that can push quite a lot with a reduction gearbox, you can automate 300mm or more with plenty of pushing power behind it for as little as $30. I ended up scoring a salvage industrial injection screw (40x1100mm and weighs 20 lbs worth of hardened steel) that I was going to operate with my compressor, but ended up--after A LOT of searching--for a electric motor with a Huge reduction gearbox (745:1) for max torque to turn the beast, with said linear actuator for the final shot push and a real janky pressure-washer piston as a backup when the need for Heavy Duty arises. Slight bonus points for PID and band heaters, but it's ultra low buck overall that would cost a fortune if I had to buy everything new.

Honestly the "best" thing to do to keep this a manual process is increase the lever arm length and use a ratchet system that mimics standard presses. Part of the problem is that you're continually outside the ideal press area (in this case 90 degrees to the ground because you're using weight to apply torque) so staying as close to this area is your target. One solution for this would be: Have the press as a piston on one fixed axis. The piston has gear teeth on the top for the distance the press needs to travel. The l piston is fixed near the midpoint and if you want extra credit throw another support above the gear Theres then a gear fixed to a mount point that forces contact with the piston teeth Then there's a lever arm attached on the same gear axis. The lever arm ratchets( can be as easy as a spring and a piece of metal on a hinge) which then turns the gear and forces the press to go down. The lever arm can always be near the optimal position, taking advantage of gear ratios can give you better pressure, and fixing the piston rod increase efficiency. This is in general a pretty simple machine and you could easily make and have the others cnc'ed. Hope this helps a little.
