thanks for sharing. I've got to admit, I've tried making dubbing brushes but I didn't realize my problem until I watched yours. I was putting too much material on the brush so I was getting brushes with really 'chunky' parts in the middle. After watching your video, I made a few brushes that worked perfectly. Less really is more :)

Glad to help! Yeah for sure with the less is more thing. In general I find that to be a good rule with tying any fly. Seems like I always like the looks of flies when I use less material than I think I need.

That's a very cool tool. I guess like a lot of other pursuits there's a lot of specialized knowledge involved with tying flies. Always something new to learn about. Thanks for the interesting video.

I have seen dubbing brush tables where the table drops when you spin the brush. It makes the material not wind so tight up against the wire. Not nearly as much combing. You might want to check it out.

I agree, dubbing brush tables are really good to have. I recently got a new table that is much better than this one and plan on doing a review of it soon. It’s a little more expensive but I think it’s worth the price. It’s really so much easier to use and so much better brushes

Thanks for sharing! Curious, what line weight would you use for a fly like the one shown here?
@travisbyles5286
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply! I was actually thinking of the main line, could a 5 wt rod and line cast this or would somthing heavier be required? Still did not know about tippet ither so all good info!
@McFlyAngler
6 жыл бұрын
No, I would at least cast it on a 7-8wt, it’s big, heavy, and wind resistant... as for tippet, Jason is correct, 2-0x will probably be fine for large trout. Personally I’d stay closer to the 0x. But nothing wrong with buying some fluorocarbon bass fishing line in 20-30lb and making a perfection loop in it and making that your leader. Usually trout aren’t as line shy when chasing large streamers. If your fishing for other fish though like bass or pike, I’d use heavy line like 30lb+ or steel leader for pike.

I made this video a long time ago so I’m forgetting what I used then, but currently I use a simple bobbin holder like I use for the thread. Here is a link to one online. Go cheap for the wire one since wire would damage a good one anyway. amzn.to/3jOkf6g

Where can I get a real good fly tying kit I had one when I fourteen but it got lost in a housefire a long time ago I wanna get back into it?
@McFlyAngler
5 жыл бұрын
I don’t like the “kits” because most of them have materials and tools you will want to replace quickly. Send me a private message on Instagram, and I’ll put together a list of individual items to buy that will end up lasting you a lifetime. Also I’ll need your budget and what type of fishing you normally do. Just the kits tend to be so junky most the time, and if they aren’t, they are super expensive for some tools and materials you might not ever use.

The video is old, links don’t last forever since some places stop selling, etc. so let me look for it. However I have a better table I’d recommend. It does cost a bit more but is easier to use and makes bigger brushes. Oasis benches makes that one. www.oasisbenches.com/dubbing-brush-table/
