Nice Scheib! I like it. We are in the same situation. We were using the bags off Amazon and then they weren’t available. Then we found them on Northern Woodsman website and we actually turned Back 40 on to them as you might have heard on his live stream. But the bags still with shipping you have around 70-85 cents a piece in them. I like the poly strap idea if you can get it really tight if not the 3 inch plastic wrap around the end will probably hold it tighter. As always thanks for sharing brother!

I like the idea of polypropylene strapping. I checked one place and it would work out to $.12-$.18 per bundle(with one strap) but not sure one strap would be enough. But so far the stretch wrap on both sides is doing good at $.26 a bundle. Thanks for the idea of strapping. Stay safe and stay positive brother ❤

Ahhh, nice to see a fellow fabricator hard at work. I laughed out loud when you showed us that piece of 1/2” bar stock😉. Yup, that’ll hold her🤣. I get ahold of a piece like that and I’m try’n my damndest to find something else to use in its place... That heavy stock is special😍 Bless’ns to ya, Tedd

I would try the polly strapping, if you have a tensioner it will hold the bundles tight. Maybe throw a twine loop around one or two of the top pieces as a handle. Awesome idea, take care.

Potato sacks are so common here in germany and they are always used for firewood bags. They come in all sorts of sizes, but don't necessarily say "Firewood" on them. I mean it is not really necessary, since you can see what's in the bag. I know you didn't ask for that, but if I'd go into camp firewood then Id get/build one of those that you stack the firewood in, pull the bag over and then flip the container so they all fall neatly into the bag.. the pieces are usually smaller tho. In your scenario: I know that most people like the wrap, and it will probably be the best/easiest solution for you. I personally just like string more, I'd use hempf rope/string. But honestly, get a role of both and see what you like better.

I like the concept, but I think when you lift them out of the square frame, they will loosen up whether you use poly strap or stretch wrap. Because I like math, let's say your frame is 1' x 1'. You would use 4' of poly strap to contain 1 square foot of wood looking at the end. That same 4' strap circumference in a circle would hold 1.27 square feet. My suggestion would be to step bend half circles the same gauge and width as the U-bracket and weld them in your existing frame. Then use the pieces that would normally fill the bottom corners to round out the top to make a tight bundle. Might be a little egg shaped, but close enough. One square foot of wood in a circle will only use 3.54' of strap. One final touch would be to lay an approx. 30" piece of twine across the top of the bundle, strap or wrap your bundle (which ever is cheaper or faster), and then tie the twine to make a nice double twine handle. I've also seen some staple a handle on. FYI, I only sell by face cord but might try bundles next summer if I have any wood leftover.

Forgot to mention I use nylon twine, very inexpensive and works great at cinching up the bundle tight and makes a good handle too.

You might want to round them corners off if bundling in short sleeves, mine is made just about like that except I made the top swivel so I don't have to walk around it to stretch wrap the other side and long bolts on one side that I unscrew so I don't have to pick up the bundle to get it out because the pecan and oak is heavy.

Not sure if you've already decided but if I were buying bundles, typically id be from the city and wouldn't be able to figure out how to get the scraping off or own a knife lol. Id just go with the plastic wrap.

Hey guys I order bags from NNZ. They dont have "firewood" printed on them but with shipping they cost me .23 cents a pcs but you do have to order them 2000 at a time. I have done it both ways and personally I like the bags the best and so my customers.

I'd do the straps, there's a local company near me that do the strapping with plastic buckels. I'd put 3 on it so wood don't fall out of the sides. Was looking around this summer for the strap clips but had to luck at local stores, best to probably order off line in bulk

If you can afford to buy the poly strapping, and the wrap, do some bundles using both ways, and see which type the customers tend to grab.

I’ve been wanting to make one of these! I like the idea of the poly strapping, if you were to do shrink wrap at both ends it seems more time consuming and you might be using twice as much shrink wrap? Not to mention, it might be hard to fabricate a hand crank system to work effectively on both sides of the bundle.

I would suggest you Google Strapping machine to see the different machines on the market and the ones that fit you need. You could also look on KZitem for many of them in operation. On Ebay, you can buy some semi-automatic for 300$, are easy to operate and inexpensive to run with a maximum pull of 100 pounds. You just need to figure out a way to bring the bundle on the machine with like in a basket or something. Good luck.

With one strap in the middle I don’t think it will be very stable. Could do 2 straps on each end then would be stable. Could do the two shrink wraps would probably be quicker. Or here’s another thought, get one like the wood guy, mama Grizz seems to be able to pop out the bundles pretty quick. Not sure which would be the cheapest, but the machine mama Grizz uses would be the fastest, could also put a little card between the shrink wrap with your name etc on it. Keep safe my friend.
