Thanks! The last segment was a bit dark. My shop lighting isn't where it needs to be for a good video. I want to put in some LED lighting above my bench. Some of the new lights have an adjustable temperature which may help with getting colors to render accurately. They work by having 2 sets of leds. A cool set and a warm set which can be mixed. This whole splitting wood with your knife has gone way overboard. It is not the test of a good knife. A proper test is does it do what it was made to do. Besides I rarely have to split wood for a fire. If it is really wet from snow or rain I'll bring a 24" axe or a large knife in addition to my belt knife.....and probably a bunch of other knives, I can't help it ok! This is a good topic for a future video!

Thanks! I sent the knife off before checking the footage in the final video. the ending was a little dark and doesn't clearly show off the knife. The lighting in my garage isn't the best even though I have a bunch of clamp lights set up around my workbench to help.

That's one super awesome custom knives you made, Ken. Well done! I like how you mentioned about using the correct tool for wood splitting and not using the knife you made, as it wasn't designed for that. 👌This is a concept that seems to elude some folks; use the right tool for the right job. 👍I wish you the best of luck in Scab's contest, I hope you win brother! 🙏I'm in your corner, cheering for you! Take care my friend and Cheers!

We will see how the knife does in a few weeks! Yeah, I always think of a knife first as a cutting tool. Cutting and use as a wedge require compromises. Use as a knife suffers too much in order to add in the required toughness.

Thank you! I didn't know how this was going to turn out. All of the submissions were very good looking blades! It was fun and a great experience however it turned out! I can't wait for the rest of the videos so that we can get some pointers on how to improve our work. I loved the design of your entry. A long continuous blade is a great cutter. Yours looked like it was geared towards a little heavier duty use than mine.

Question.. I've wondered why is that called batoning? "spelling" knife is doing good. You did a great job making it.

Baton has a few meanings. One is the stick that a conductor uses. Another definition and where I suppose the meaning is from, is a metal or wood stick carried by law enforcement to "beat down" a violent person. Since people are obsessed with finding a big stick and beating the knife with it the name got picked up. At least that is my guess!
