Thank you so much for watching the series and taking the time to message me. Very much appreciated and I hope that that means you have either started or going to start to make your own Fuchsia standard. All the best but if you need any help just shout me either here on on instagram, under the same name. 🌸

@@Edward-turtle Hi Edward thanks for the message. Having tried a few different varieties I really like Display and Celia Smedley for taller standards although it really is personal choice depending on if you like the flower colour and type. Both of those are hardy types so whilst slower to get going they will generally survive over winter, allowing you to continue developing the plant year after year. It’s worth remembering that variety will denote how tall a standard you can create as something like Beacon will always struggle to get taller than about 1-1.2m full height. I would suggest looking up Fuchsia varieties available to buy in your area and then work out which to go for. Quite often smaller starter plants are available from Fuchsia societies or local growers which allows for a cheaper way to get going. Hope this all helps 🌸🌼

I’m currently doing a standard one and just wondered what is the best height to get them to for the best effect. It’s already 24inches, I know yours was a fair bit taller but does it not look as good if it’s shorter (I’m just getting impatient that’s all).

Hi and thanks for the message. This comes down to 2 things, personal taste and variety of Fuchsia being used as some varieties simply won’t get tall enough to make a proper standard. I made a patio standard last year, video is on my channel somewhere, but used a shorter variety so had no choice in the achievable height. I must admit that last year it looked a bit spindly but this year looks pretty awesome. This year I picked a taller variety to use which should have been easy to grow for a taller standard but with our poor season they have taken ages to grow to my desired height. For now why don’t you stop the plants (pinch the top out) and allow the head to form. You can then see how it fills out with a view that you can make another next year by taking your own cuttings.

@@diyhomeandgardening thanks for that I might try pinching the top and see how it turns out. To be honest I’m pretty chuffed I’ve had the patience to get it to this height. I might start one earlier next year now I know what I’m doing. Keep doing the videos they’re great for a newbie gardener like me.

@@Tea_and_thyme_2012. Patience is definitely something that you need for gardening otherwise it’s very frustrating 😂 Hope the plant turns out well. At least you will have something that can’t be readily bought and that has been developed by you.
