The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is extremely committed to animal care, health, and well-being. Recently, the Columbus Zoo collaborated with the University of Michigan to fit a GPS collar on Mara, a 16-year-old Amur tiger. Mara's GPS collar is providing vital data about tiger behavior and movement that will help scientists better understand her wild counterparts. The data collected in human care will help provide a baseline of understanding that can be used to help estimate the energy used by tigers in the wild to determine their response to a human disturbance near human infrastructures like roads.
