Thanks for the positive comments! I plan to make several different generators to compare performance and parameters. In addition, the first internal combustion engine will soon appear on the channel! Stay healthy and Merry Christmas!

Very nice video! I look forward to seeing more (and bigger) generators =) I'm thinking I might try to build one of these to charge my cell phone from a windmill or water wheel when I'm out camping.

Really nice, great work with a 3D printer for the hardware. Altho to make the generator even more efficient, placing a piece of iron plate/disc on the opposite side of the magnet disc of the coils would help push more magnetic fields into the coils.

Are there any plans to turn this into a small wind turbine? They have been plagued by poor performance. Great build, well done.

Even this generator isn't perfect. It's just a home made BLDC motor/generator. Output energy is always lower than input (bearing and belt friction losses, some power dissipated as heat by the machine and by the rectifier). You could for sure put it on a wind turbine, BUT: 40w output means that continously running at full power for an hour generates 40Wh. A small car battery its 12v 45Ah. That's 540Wh. Electronic battery chargers have usually efficiency around 85%, that means your power to charge the battery is actyally 34W, the rest is dissipated as heat/sound. Said that, you have to run that thing at full power for 15.8 hours just to fully charge your tiny car battery. Now, just attach a 230v sine inverter (another 85% eff) to have an effective 459Wh of available power. That means you can turn on a 1kW oven for less than half an hour, or a 2kW water heater for 13min, or a 3kW load for little bit more than 9 minutes. And then another 16 hours to recharge. Is this worth your time and money?

Does this generator produces more power than a NEMA 23 hybrid stepper motor? I built a small wind turbine generator using an 8 wire unipolar stepper motor I wasn't using. If this generator produces more with less cogging, I would build one and replace the NEMA23. I also have a NEMA 34 bipolar I never used, but it's too big for my liking.

Bardzo ladnie wykonany generatorek, jesli uzyl bys magnesow 30mm x 30mm zamiast tych 8mm x 6mm to natezenie pola magnetycznego bedzie wieksze (co powinno spowodowac wieksze napiecie przy niskich obrotach). do tego uzylbym bardzo cienkiego drutu by uzyskac duzo zwojow by uzyskac wysokie napiecie przy niskich obrotach. przy niskoobrotowym generatorku nawet reczna korba moglaby wystarczyc by zaswiecic LEDy. no i moze uzycie ceramicznych lozysk i plastikowych srob moze zminimalizowac straty mechaniczne do minimum :)chociaz ceramiczne lozyska sa halasliwe ale przy niskich obrotach powinno byc ok chyba ;) pozdrawiam!
