It was nice to see the testing as it helps us to make informed comments...I would love to see a dead blow made with a heavy spring handle like the trench club. My theory is gained accuracy as well as lessened shock transfer to the hand but still keep the inertia transfer from the shot inside the head.

You forgot the most important difference, eliminating variables. This could be done by using a robotic swing arm or just gravity on a pivot frame so that the same amount of force was applied to each swing. The documentation part would be to use some sort of scale to measure the actual peak force felt at the blow of each hammer. This, however, would be a lot of unnecessary effort for such a simple comparison. A hammer with what is essentially spring suspension, having less recoil than one with a rigid handle isn't exactly surprising. The craftsmanship in making the hammer was impressive though. Good video either way.

@@clencheastwood1571 I mean, there is a difference in how much effort one goes through, to demonstrate how stuff really works. To stop it from drifting to the side you could put a bike chain in between the two cables. The reason the hammer so inaccurate is because it’s just as easy for it to go to the side than it is to go forwards and backwards, as there is two cables holdings it in place either way, just in different directions.

The principle behind flexible handled sledge hammers is storage of energy in the flexed handle. It permit you to slowly raise the sledge hammer behind you while you induce forces in the handle, and when the sledge hammer head falls towards the intended impact zone, the gravity and the accumulated forces in the handle accelerate the head of the sledge hammer to a faster final speed than just a human stroke. Impacting with greater forces because of the higher velocity.

This was really cool to watch! I wonder if you flipped one segment of cable 180 degrees so that one spiral is opposite the other how it would help with the twist issue. I see that you’ve said it was user error, but you may have less twist with greater swinging velocity that way. Edit: I know there are a ton of comments suggesting improvements, but I haven’t seen this suggested. I definitely don’t mean to take away from what you did either, this was a lot of fun to watch and think about.

Thanks for the video! I know that it wouldn't look as cool, but if you were to put a thick, flexible tubing over the free parts of the cables, do you think it would give just enough stiffness to make the hammer more accurate while retaining the full effect of not transferring vibrations back to the user's hand. You spoke of using a thicker cable, but that might be harder to make at the handle end or even the head end. Even PVC piping or tubing over the cables might make the dead blow hammer a little less wobbly without changing the other properties.
@DiesInEveryFilm

Thank you mate, apparently it’s less effort than a standard hammer, i think my fault here was trying to hard rather than letting the hammer do the work

With practice comes accurecy on over head swings with large hammers and axes. Also just added info its a good idea to kinda shift to one side of the target before lineing up your swing especially with axes , like when splitting logs if you miss and are dead center theirs a great chance its goin tword your legs then. If your going over right shoulder stand a bit to the left and vice versa

Quick tip. When drilling through metal it helps stop bit binding there at the end if you use a wood backer. For people using cheaper tools this can save your bits from snapping.

@@DiesInEveryFilm I didn’t realize that you had that lol but you seem to have nice things and the tip is aimed at poor people like me 😂 also absolutely beautiful work btw. I’m also jealous of that 2x72 grinder. Mine got stolen 😭

Ight… first time watcher here. I might say pretty good video (even if it’s 2 years old). The way you performed the tests and compared it properly was a really good touch (because I’ve watched other KZitemrs doing something by themselves and always praising what they’ve done like if they found the holy grail…). But I could say that the start was a bit confusing for a newcomer. Might still check your videos. In summary: - Good Timing - Entertaining - Truthful Review Final Score: 9/10 worth for the sub.

Great idea I like the concept. Perhaps the handle could be stiffened a bit. Perhaps some short section of the steel square rod welded into the handle would work. Great idea to stop impact shock getting back into your arm. Thanks for showing your idea.

Just a thought, what if you did a few short welds between the cables from handle to head? It would make the neck less wobbly and provide more accuracy while giving some flex in the neck just not as sloppy.
@DiesInEveryFilm

It’s the twisting that’s the problem, i want the flex
@TheUniquePlumberman

I understand that, what I guess I meant was to reinforce the cables to prevent the twist for more linear force while still having the deadblow affect. Like an expansion bridge, there's guide cables to prevent twist.

Rotate the arrangement of the cables so they are side by side and not in-line, it will be floppier forward and back but will be much more stable side to side.

Like the idea, would have thought of putting a piece of motorbike chain between the two cables to stop the twist and left to right movement while still getting the up and down movement with the cables.
