When Chuck’s inner costume nerd comes out it makes for some of my favorite projects and some of my favorite build along videos to just watch.

I learned ... can't remember where .. but .. use RED gel pens to mark leather since most dyes are red-ish based ... they pretty much blend in.

Love this video! I think I may modify it for my modern pistol and hunting/camping knife. I'm always amazed at the stamps you put together and they look great; I've started trying different combos myself.

What we don’t see on the videos most of the time is the years of thinking, planning, and test panels Chuck has to draw on. It does look easy once you’ve built up that library. It’s why I’m thankful so many of the skilled leather crafters are making videos now.

So happy this is finally out!!! I needed this for last month's Ocean City Maryland Ren Faire! I did come up with a baldric but just from two old woven belts join together with a specialty double post buckle I got off of eBay. I really like the double post buckle but I don't know how to use it properly detached two ends of a belt. It almost seems just decorative so I might attach it to the front of a ball drink and put the real buckle on the back? Funny how voice to text here's Baldrick, ball drink, hears. Wish we could share pictures in the comments on KZitem videos. I'll just have to ask advice on the fan page. Hi everybody from Pottstown PA near the PA Ren Faire

It is interesting to see how other people do things. I always punch my holes after all of the dye and top coat are done. The holes tend to collect the liquids, and they sometimes end up going where I don't want them to go.
@WeaverLeatherSupply

Yes, you could absolutely wait and punch the holes after dyeing. Those areas seemed to dry very evenly with the rest of this project but it's definitely something to keep an eye on.

Yep, a flintlock on a rainy day = mud in the pan. Even a "cow's knee" isn't perfect, but it's a good solution for both flint and caplock pistols (and long guns). As to a use for the punchouts, mixed with bits of cut up leather lace, they make a model railroad scenery addition. Ground cover and other uses.

What about using a flat blade sewing/lacing punch to make the holes for those little nickel spot?

That should work! As long as the punch blade isn't wider than the tine of the spot.
