The twist serves no real purpose except for aesthetics, it dresses up a pretty dull piece of plastic tubing :)

@Skushee Actually, they do. It's not necessary, but it aids in the amplification of the sound; it makes it louder. And Aboriginals do use a bell, if it is provided. They make the Didgeridoo's out of Eucalypt wood, carved out by termites. Trees tend to be wider at the bottom, which acts like a bell.

@can0nabis thinner pipes are deeper in sound. 1.5" is a good start. a bell at the end will make the didgeridoo a bit louder, but also a bit more high pitched. you dont want anything larger then 2"- it will be difficult to play.

I put such an adapter on a piece of PVC pipe -- but it was very hard to blow. I had not cut down the pipe yet -- maybe that is the problem. Or is the mouthpiece just too big for me??

My bottle got stuck, LMAO.. I smashed it against my tree, then the neck of the bottle decided to stay. In the end I got it all out. Still worth it..

You should try to bell it easier by leaving it a little long, capping both ends but on one cap stick a tire valve through it. Do not use glue. Then, heat near the end and with a quick motion, put in only 1-2 psi to make the hot end expand. Use only 2 psi max or the hot pipe bursts and the belling fails. Once it expands, push the end into the middle to make the trumpet size bell. Once it cools, you can then saw the dished out expanded area to get the bell. I got 2 bells like this then used a wye coupler to have 2 bells. Stuff the middle of the wye with pool noodle or something or the didge sounds French(nasal) and its not real loud either.

It is a lot easier to make one. I have make an pvc didge with two endings. Very easy to make and sounds better.

This is the first video I've seen where the middle is bent. What does that do for the instrument?

It makes it easy to rest on the ground if it's a long didge. It's totally optional :)
