There's a FREE download option on my DeviantArt with four different postcard options if you want to surprise someone for the holidays!
www.deviantart...
Hey everyruby,
So, this little fanart series has been close to three years in the making. I discovered Sanders Sides at the end of 2020 while I was in therapy and it significantly helped me to give a place to a couple of things I still needed to work through. So much so that, despite it falling far out of what I usually draw, I wanted to draw a piece of fanart for it.
I decided that I was in no hurry to finish it and allowed myself to just do small parts of the piece whenever I felt like it, hence it taking me three years. I had no intention of making a postcard out of it when I started, either, but the idea came to me when I was nearly done with the piece and it seemed a fitting way to spread some love for this series and give something back to the community, as I know Thomas really likes the holidays.
I don’t personally celebrate the holidays, though, so I made an alternate version for everyone who, like me, would rather bless others for the upcoming Winter Solstice. Whichever you celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful time during these darker days of the year and I hope this postcard can bring you some joy!
(SPOILERS for the series down below!)
⋆✮✦✮⋆
Logan | Logic
For Logan I differentiated his design by making certain edges more angular (particularly in his face). For his pose I wanted to go with a “teacher” vibe, as Logan is often the one to explain concepts and sometimes “lectures” Thomas- and I made his pose to loosely resemble a pentagon shape to keep the pattern of geometry going. His hairstyle is most kept of the four of them, with little pieces flying out to hint at the fact that despite trying very hard, Logan isn’t always in control of all aspects of himself in the series.

Patton | Morality
This one was so delightful to bring to life because of all of the soft vibes ^^
Because this character embodies the heart, I went with a soft pose and I tried to make everything about Patton as rounded as possible, including his hair, which is also the fluffiest and lightest out of them all because of all the time spent in the sunlight. I added these little slightly curled strands of hair to add to the overall more playful vibe Patton exudes. I also decided to add freckles and blush, for the simple reason that I think it looks adorable and because those tend to come out with a lot of time in the sun as well, which I think suits Patton! Lastly, I added lots of spark and refracted light to his eyes to finish off the dreamy look.

Roman | Creativity
The pose was, rather obviously, stolen from the pose Roman makes oftentimes throughout the series, particularly when he rises. I originally had his expression a little different, but decided to change it to create a wink, as I feel like Roman is also the most outgoing of the sides and would definitely be the most “flirty”. I also decided to puff his hair up a little to go for that “prince-like charm”. Lastly, because Roman is the only one of the sides with a warm tone to his design, I decided to mix in a slight hint of purple so he would blend in well with the others in the final piece!
⋆✮✦✮⋆
Virgil | Anxiety
Last on the list- Virgil! It’s no secret that I have a soft spot for this particular character and I had such fun redesigning him in my style!
I had a little trouble with his pose though, as I wanted to make it look like he was taking down his hood to signify his character development in the series. The episodes about Accepting Anxiety played a crucial role in my own understanding of my anxiety disorder and helped me tremendously in giving it all a place, so I really wanted to bring that part of his character forward, in part to say Thank you to Thomas and the team.
Other than that, I also decided to draw him with slightly purplish hair, as I thought that really suited Virgil when Thomas had dyed his hair. The jacket was perhaps my favourite out of all of the costumes to give shape to, too, as the patches were so much fun to draw- and I tried to make the “anxious look” complete by having his hair appear slightly greasy and with loose strands flying everywhere, and I did the shading on the skin with purple to give him this “hasn’t seen sunlight in days” edge.
