I wanted to test a few things with this video, so it's a really simple project.
First, I rigged up an articulating lamp for use with my camera and I put spots all over the shop to just pick it up and place it. This will eliminate any shaking caused by the tools. So I was testing the different angles I could shoot from. There are a few shots missing, like the box glue up. I'm a dope and had the camera pointing too low. Let me know if any of the shots aren't clear or not a good angle.. I'm still learning.
Second I bought the Ultimate Box Joint Jig plans from John Heisz and I built it.
Here is the link to his build video - • How To Make The Ultima...
And a link to the plans -

I wanted to test it out as well, and I must say it did an outstanding job. Money well spent on those plans.
As I said, this was a very simple build. I cut the Maple to rough size then cut some 1/4" box joints along the sides. Glued them up and let them dry. I then took another piece of maple for the top and bottom and resawed it. Glued that on and trimmed it up flush.
Then I sanded, and sanded.. I made some wood filler using the dust from my orbital sander to fill any spots that needed it. Then some more sanding.
Quick round over on the router table and a little more sanding. Then I used the bandsaw to cut the top of the box off. I grabbed some 1/8" ply and glued them into the lid to act as a guide when putting the lid on the box.
Then I cleaned it up with mineral spirits and put a few coats of lacquer on. Simple..
