Very nice video and great tribute to another unsung woodworker. Been a fan of his for a long time. One question, Ken. It appears one could do that with a 1/4" dado, yes?
@acutabove_woodworkings

Thanks for the kind words on the show russ. I appreciate that. You could most certainly do this with a 1/4" dado on the table saw. As long as you took the time to set the blade height correctly, there should be no issues. Thanks for tuning in and for taking the time to leave you comments. I appreciate it.

@@russveinot5754 Thanks for all the kind words. I really appreciate it. You would be 100% right when you say that it is a crew of one. I do all the filming, photo taking, talking, demonstrating, editing and posting. It's a ton of work but I enjoy it. It gives me something to do on the weekends and during the weeknights after I get home from my real job. As for answering comments, I truly do my best to answer every single one. I honestly feel bad when I have missed a comment and don't respond. I do my absolute best to put out a show that everyone can enjoy and although I know I can't please everyone, I try my best to do so. I figure that if people are good enough to take the time to leave a comment, then I should have the common courtesy to answer them back. It's just how people should be treated I think.

First you tell me you're a one man band and now you tell me you work for a living too !!?!! OK, you can start wearing your cape. Your secret identity has been exposed. I couldn't do that. First, I don't edit anything. second I am retired so I got all day everyday. It seems to me, editing is the biggest part of video creation to most. About answering comments. I agree totally. I try to respond to them (and everyone) within the first hour. That's my one defining characteristics of my channel. I have even answered comments with a video within 24 hours. But always answering is important to me.

What a fantastic idea. I really want to try this now. How big could you make this box before having to worry about wood movement in the lid and bottom?
@acutabove_woodworkings
5 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't think that wood movement on a project of this size would be much of an issue. If you are concerned about it, you can always deepen your router made dados and cause the lid to be a bit of a looser fit. Then movement of the stock wouldn't be an issue. The other solution to this would be to apply a sealer to the wood (such as varnish) as soon as you finish the project, which would eliminate movement completely as there would be no way for moisture to get in or out of the stock. This box got several coats of varnish once it was done and there has been no issues so I would say, make it as big as you are comfortable with on the router table. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

What a great box idea. But I have a question about fences. I have a fence on my drill press and router table. I may be over thinking but I have no idea how to properly set the fences. Can you help?
@acutabove_woodworkings
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words on the show Marc. There are plenty of ways to set up a fence for many different operations. Did you have a specific operation in mind? Basically, you have to remember that the distance from the centre of the bit (router or drill press) to the fence is what is important. It is not necessarily important to have the fence square to the table. If I need the centre of the bit to be 1" from the stock, I will roughly set the fence at that distance, trying to keep the fence square, just by eyeballing it. I will then tighten the fence down and check the measurement. From there, it is a simple method of loosening one side of the fence and adjusting in or out to fine tune to your final dimension. Regardless if the fence is square or not, as long as the distance between your bit and your fence is correct, at the point in time where your stock travels over your bit to be cut or your drill bit touches your stock to be drilled, the measurements will be correct and you cut will be right. I don't know if this little explanation helps or not as I'm not sure what issues you are having. If there's more that you need, let me know. Thanks for tuning in.

@@acutabove_woodworkings Thanks for the awesome explanation. I thought maybe the fence needed to be square but, as I said, overthinking the process.
