What a wonderful tribute to your grandfather, having that plane is very special. When my Dad passed away his brother took all his tools, claiming Dad owed him money. However, I do have several of my wife’s grandfather’s tools, including a no. 5 plane. While I never knew the man, I use his tools with pride recalling the stories I heard of his craftsmanship.

My grandpa also did a lot of woodworking, especially with the scroll saw! He has these super intricate 3D layered pieces. I managed to get his lighthouse piece! Didn't expect this video to hit me in the feels like it did. It'll be nine years in a few weeks. This makes me want to make a tribute to him now.

In the last 18 months I lost the two woodworkers I looked up to the most, my step dad at 82 and a long time friend at 85. Ironically, I have an old had plane from each of them. I have been thinking about how to display them and honor each of them in my shop. Each of them had sayings that are engrained in my head for life. This video has given me a great way to honor them and keep their hand planes on display all the time. Great video! Keep up the amazing work!

This is an awesome video, the sign is reminiscent of the one on the new yankee workshop, very nicely done and a nice Memorial to your grandfather. My grandfather passed away 2 years ago. He was a retired tool maker from General Motors and he also a master woodworker, I remember as a kid hanging out with him in the shop and seeing his projects come to life. He made lots of custom pieces for his home and for the family. Many of which are still in the family as heirlooms. I was fortunate enough to be able to get all of his wood shop willed to me when he passed, it’s been an awesome journey going through everything and using the tools. Once’s again awesome video!

Well Chris, had you any idea the impact this Grandpa Tribute would have on so many of us?! This page is now bookmarked and loaded on my desktop for ready retrieval. I am 68 and no one to pass my stuff to, and I have been renovating my grandpy's hand tools that I managed to keep, including the 1917 Bedrock 606 hand plain. Have been trying to imagine how to display these tools, when you came along! Now I have the solution! I don't have the talent to do the carving/blocking you have, but I can create a tribute to him of similar worth to yours. So, with tears on my cheeks, thanks so much for the inspiration! Good luck on your future endeavors, I will be following, and perhaps I can send you pictures of my efforts, thanks to your great idea!!
