Hi John, thanks for the comments. I believe it's the drive "cog" for a factory that works with large cardboard tubes. They have various sizes.

Funny you should show a tapered job. I made a tapered object myself today to fit over the nose of my electric die grinder so I can mount it on the lathe for grinding end mills. Good onya

An interesting way of forming the internal keyway. Did the tapered hole close in when you welded it? I suppose that being a taper it would just not go on as far. Nice and warm now! Chris B.
