I suspect you ran into the same problem I had with a CBG build of my own. I put a dab of hot glue in the center of a piezo stuck it to the soundboard. It was quick, easy and perfect right? Not so much. That resulted in very low output volume. I discovered that, because hot glue is very rubbery, it was damping the vibrations from the soundboard. I then removed it and reapplied using epoxy. Voila! nice and loud. I then glued a 1/4" fender washer to the backside of the piezo, which resulted in a bit more attack caused by the additional mass.
@3x3CustomTamar

So it wasn’t a dampened sound. It was zero sound... I think the solder joint came loose... but that’s a cool idea with the fender washer.

I like to think that the not so perfect look is a unique characteristic of the piece a sort of personality of the builder and the living wood. So I tell anyone that notices, "I meant to do that" You made that look so fun and easy.... B/ I'm thinking I can do that. the 3 strings is very appealing to me. sounds real good and looks simpler to play. so yeah I think I will try another one of your easy peezy projects. BTW did you ever get my email giving you a link to my Drive where I shared templates and instructions for making a pendulum clock? @@hiidenlintuband1410 You said Gibson. Dammit now you got me doing it! We're all gonna get sued. Do they serve Wendy's in jail? I hope I can bring My Pillow. Case. I wonder if ill need to take a Jet Ok my point is simply saying a name brand is not stepping on a trademark Putting Gibson name and or logo on your creations and selling it is. If its for you own use its not. Its when you try and profit from a name brands good name. A close match name can also be a violation. JBC. made and sold goods for the US market. JVC opened suit Jbc was found guilty of infringement and had to change its name and pay Jvc . Now if I sold my pillow but had a differnt logo then the my pillow company might not have the same legal claim becuse the term my pillow is a household name. When somone takes your pillow you dont yell give me my lump of fiber or foam filled thing. No becuse its yours you ask for your my pillow. Wile the brand name is novel if somone wanted to push it i dont think the my pillow company could defend its namesake as a trademark brand. Its a household name. It never should have been given the trade mark using that term. A decent lawer could argue that in a court of law and win the case. GIBSON is a unique name. The brand has made that name household. A comon phrase like my pillow isn't anything new. But the artwork was. Now why do I know this crap? I was reading trademark laws. And this was my understanding to how the laws are written. It would be up to a judge to interpret the law as explained by an attorney arguing the case.

@@3x3CustomTamar also when soldering to metal if the piece to solder is big you need a higher power soldering iron or to preheat the piece, for example, when soldering a pot first pre-tin the wire applying a little bit of solder to the wire before everything, then rough the surface with some sand paper, then (if you don't have a high power iron) touch the surface with the iron for 3~4 seconds, then apply a little bit of solder until it sticks, as fast as you can (so it doesn't get cold) solder the wire that you already pre-tinned and that should get the job done

That is a really cool guitar. I'm so happy that you show all the mistakes. Some people say mistakes are bad, and they only show a perfect world on the videos. You are special in that you don't hide the raw - which is the most important to wood workers. This video really inspires me to build my own. Crimson is also really cool. I'm glad you reference them. On your soldering, if you have solder that doesn't stick, try scratching the surface in a cross pattern and make sure you iron is hot. Pre-solder a dab on the surface, pre-solder your wire, then solder both together, then add a little dab on top, and hold until all form one bond. Also another trick is to use one of those small high powered magnets to hold the wire down while you solder.

If you want to improve the resonance if you do a next built, research acoustic guitar braces. The long wing would need some braces to spread bass frequencies correctly and not cause too much vibrations that will turn the guitar in a feedback machine. The way the guitar is built right now is fine, but don't get too wild with the gain and be careful not to play facing the amp at high volumes.

now if it were me , i would consider over-complicating with ebay electronic boards = max4410 preamp , or an ne5532 type , ooh , they have these a bass guitar active 3 band harness , they sell all of this type for pretty cheap. using the piezo is clever and a preamp circuit could help to balance it out to meet the level of the humbucker - if this is even an issue. oh yeah i just remembered - i built a 4 strng cbg , i rasped a neck and even used nails for frets , it has a jfet preamp and a headphone amp built in but that humbucker you used is so cool ! i love your hockey stick headstock and the chambered body for percussian -you thought of everything and your craftwomanship on fleek . the body shape-drools - , what a great job. i am such a hack, rock on thats really a neato project , i am so jealous, you did it right -hats off !!

For good solder joints, there is a little prep work involved, but not too bad. In my job doing circuit card repair under a microscope, we use special abrasive erasers to clean the pads you intend to solder before cleaning them off with isopropyl. I'd say isopropyl and a q-tip will work fine for this part. You will also want to tin the things you plan on soldering: the pads and the wires. Tinning is just pre-soldering to make sure the joints will all take solder when you actually go to join parts. One of the big things you'll want to use is flux. I call it my "frenemy" because as nasty and sticky as it is (and in my job, I had to flush all traces of it from my work), it works absolute wonders, making beautiful, smooth, shiny fillets as opposed to dull, spiky globs. Put a little flux on anything that is going to receive solder before applying heat. Your work is amazing, and I learn a lot from your journeys. If these tips make your work amazinger, cool!

The most common problem I encounter with solder failing to stick is where you do not heat both work pieces enough and you end up with what is called a "cold joint", where it's sort of momentarily stuck together, but then you bump it and it comes loose. The solder is a really hot, viscous liquid, and you need to heat both items so that the solder wets both of them. If you've a got a round, bulbous bead that's standing proud of the work surface, then it's not hot enough. This is analogous to water on wax paper. On the other hand, when it's ready to bond, the solder will wet the surfaces and tends to "soak" into stranded wire or form puddles instead of beads. Like, if you're bonding two things you tinned, and you've got a wet bead on the hot side, then the other side is not hot enough. When you see the entire mess flow together as a single mass of runny solder, then it will bond. In turn, the main cause of this problem is a dirty or crusty iron tip that needs to be scraped clean (while hot) on a wet sponge and re-tinned. Also, I do not make enough use of flux, but it helps a lot, too, convincing solder to flow and stick.

This is really cool, I've never thought of covering a soundhole with a mess like that! Imagine the amount of plectrums it could save. And I love the top! Have you considered getting a step bit for enlarging existing holes? They're designed for metal working, but Ben Crowe always ends up using them to jack holes and similar.

If you're having issues with getting your wire to stay down in the solder, clean the tip with an ammoniac brick and stick in a little pool of flux, and re-tin the tip. Put flux on your wire, and tin it. Once that's done, your solder should flow not only off the soldering iron where you want it to, but the wire should actually take the solder.

I think if you made the body say a 3rd larger you'd get a better tone out of it.. Just seems a lil tiny.. even though it's being picked up from your phones mic.. Just a thought.. nice build though
