I've wanted to make a knife handle the traditional Finnish way for quite some time. The handle consists of single slices of birch bark, which are pushed on top of each other. The result is a handle that fits comfortably into the hand. Even the Vikings are said to have used this type of knife handle.
Some of the lessons I have learned from this project:
1) Instead of 3mm brass I would take 2mm next time. This should be much easier to work with.
2) Only use birch bark under 1mm.
3) Knife blades from ebay can be cheap and have a reasonable quality at the same time.
