Hey Mike! Yeah trying to figure out how to cut the outlines of the middle sections was weird. It was hard to picture in my head how they would line up. The extra time to paint really paid off. I almost copped out and just sprayed it with lacquer, but just went for it. The first coats looked bad, but I kept adding more coats and lucked out.

Yes! I have always like Visio because it is like drawing on graph paper like I used to do for designing stuff.
I had no idea your wife worked for the GCFD. Learned something new. That fire truck turned out great, I’ll bet you’ll get requests for more.

Steve, I am a firefighter in Ohio. I am a big fan of your channel. Your projects are fun to watch and very creative. This fire truck is awesome! I don’t have a CNC, but I think I will try and recreate this on my scroll saw. Keep up the good work!

Great video Steve. Here's a tip to help keep everything aligned during assembly. Add two dowel holes, one on each end of all the sections in the same location. Glue everything up with two dowels and clamp together. After glue has dried, cut off the extra dowel ans sand smooth. Take care. Willy

Cool, I'd love to see it. It's pretty easy. Carve time was about 3-4 hours...with most of it being the detailed sides.

If I can find a version I may try and make one similar to your design with changes to fit out station and the guys and gals we work with in sister station. Great carving, I just got my Xcarve and I’m debating on putting together and start learning or wait until I build my workshop in a few months. Take buddy, I’ll be following you for sure.

It will be interesting to find out what her coworkers think about it. I copied the shape and paint scheme from our local fire trucks. Our pump trucks don't have ladders on the sides, but I couldn't make a fire engine with no ladders. lol

Steve, if you do another project like this with slices, you could use locator holes, say 1/4 inch maybe half the depth of the material, and then a short dowel to align the parts. Great project,

I get questions about how I design my templates all the time. I have it on my to do list to make a video showing it. Basically, I just draw the templates in Microsoft Visio, then either print them out for cutting, or save as SVG to import into Easel for the cnc.

@@SteveCarmichael I've bin watched all the episode I didn't saw yesterday, what a treat :)) I'm fine with the covid but I caught a nasty virus, at least it's what the doc called it. I have Bell's palsy, half my face is paralyze.... Lucky that I still have 8 episodes ready to go, without counting the Christmas episodes, Otherwise it would be a drought on my channel. OK I don't have the face of a super model, but now I look more like the hunchback of Notre-Dame without the hunch:). I'm hoping everything is fine also on your end, at least for this darn pandemic...

Thanks Dale! I wasn't sure I did either but it turned out to be kind of fun. The only pain was it took about 3 coats of the acrylics so I had to do all those letters and stuff 3 times. It would have looked fine with just a clear coat too and different alternating colors of woods maybe.
